ABOUT BETH ANDERSON

Beth Anderson, a Pittsburgh native, received her BFA in Music Theatre from Elon University. Her favorite credits include Rosa Bud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Elon University, Daisy Mae in Li'l Abner at CPCC Summer Theatre, Guys and Dolls at Flat Rock Playhouse, and Christine in The Phantom of the Opera at Pittsburgh Musical Theater. Beth recently finished touring around the country as Reuben's Wife in the National Tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler (Tony and Drama Desk Award winner and choreographer of Hamilton, In the Heights, Bring It On, etc). Aside from dancing and singing, Beth enjoys traveling and amateur gardening.

ABOUT THE BOB FOSSE-STYLE WORKSHOP

Students will learn about the life and works of Bob Fosse, legendary dancer, choreographer, and director, as well as his specific vocabulary of movement. We will work on excerpts of choreography from famous pieces such as "Rich Man's Frug" from Sweet Charity, "Manson Trio" from Pippin, and of course, "All That Jazz!" Characteristic of Fosse's signature style, students will be asked to wear black dance attire and jazz shoes. Depending on the number of students and cost, I will personally supply black bowler hats and canes!

ABOUT THE ANDY BLANKENBUEHLER-INSPIRED HIP HOP WORKSHOP

Students will explore the unique choreographic style of Andy Blankenbuehler, Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning director and choreographer. He has directed and choreographed such successes as Hamilton, In the Heights, Bring It On the Musical, 9 to 5, and much more. He is also currently choreographing Broadway's revival of Cats, set to open this fall. Students will be asked to wear clothes that are easy to move in and sneakers.

Burning Coal Theatre Company is one of Raleigh's intimate, professional theatres. Burning Coal is an incorporated, non-profit [501 (c) (3)] organization. Burning Coal's mission is to produce literate, visceral, affecting theatre that is experienced, not simply seen. Burning Coal produces explosive reexaminations of overlooked classic and modern plays, as well as new plays, whose themes and issues are of immediate concern to our audience, using the best local, national and international artists available. We work toward a theatre of high-energy performances and minimalist production values. The emphasis is on literate works that are felt and experienced viscerally, unlike more traditional linear plays, at which audiences are most often asked to observe without participating. Race and gender non-specific casting is an integral component of our perspective, as well as an international viewpoint.
