Theatre Artists Studio Announces 2017-2018 Season

The Studio is pleased to announce its 2017-2018 season. Here's a breakdown of currently scheduled events and dates!

The Cemetery Club, by Ivan Menchell; August 25 - September 17, 2017

Three Jewish women meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husband's graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life, Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun, and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. A heartwarming and sometimes humorous look at life and the testaments of true friendship.

Switzerland, by Joanna Murray-Smith; October 13 - November 5, 2017

Somewhere in the Swiss Alps, grande dame of crime literature Patricia Highsmith lives with an impressive collection of books, and a somewhat sinister collection of guns and knives. But when a mysterious international visitor arrives at her perfectly secluded home, the boundaries of fiction and reality are tested in this psychological thriller.

Father Christmas and The Snow Queen, by Alan Austin; December 1 - December 17, 2017

A fun-filled interactive holiday show in the traditional style of The British Panto (audience participation is essential to the action and resolution of the play). Join the children, Richard and Juliet, as they venture through the magic cupboard to help save Father Christmas from the clutches of the wicked Snow Queen and her crafty servant, Modo. Their adventures with an assortment of vibrant and imaginative characters make for a joyous and entertaining time for the whole family. Note:This show is three weekends only. Performances are Friday night at 7pm and Saturday & Sunday at 2pm.

Trying, by Joanna McClelland Glass; January 12 - February 4, 2018

A compelling play based on the author's experience during the late 1960's while working for Francis Biddle, Attorney General of the United States during WWII and Chief Judge of the American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. This two-character play is about a young Canadian girl and an old, Philadelphia aristocrat, "trying" to understand each other in what Biddle knows is the final year of his life.

Red, by John Logan; March 2 - March 25, 2018
Master abstract expressionist Mark Rothko has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art. In the two fascinating years that follow, Rothko works feverishly with his young assistant, Ken, in his studio on the Bowery. But when Ken gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing.
I Never Sang for My Father by Robert Anderson; April 20 - May 13, 2018
An American classic that exposes the painful truths of the relationship between a gentle mother, a dutiful son, an alienated daughter, and their harsh, detached father. Family dynamics unravel as they are forced to face the past and present in this beautifully crafted drama.

2018 New Summer Shorts; June 7 - June 17, 2018

Our summer festival of short plays penned by Studio playwrights is an annual audience favorite. Some comical, some dramatic, some completely absurd, they all add up to 90 minutes of unique theatre you won't experience anywhere else.Note: This show is two weekends only. Performances are Thursday, Friday, & Saturday nights at 7:30pm, and Sundays at2pm.

Except where noted, show times are Friday & Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm for all productions.

All productions will run for four weekends, with the exception of Father Christmas and The Snow Queen, which runs for three, and New Summer Shorts, which runs for two.

Tickets are $25 for General Admission; $20 each for Groups of 10 or More, Seniors age 65 and over and members of the military (active and retired) and $15 for Students age 25 and under.
