Local Performers to Take Part in TITANIC Fundraiser at Lincoln Theatre, 3/27

Phoenix Artistic Director Steven C. Anderson has produced a concert version of the five-time Tony Award-winning musical Titanic and recruited 38 local performers to donate their performances to help raise funds for Phoenix's "at risk" residency program with Columbus City Schools. Phoenix artists and educators go into these schools and partner with teachers to mentor fourth graders considered "at risk of failure in the classroom" by engaging them to create plays based on core curriculum.

TITANIC: A Concert Version of the Musical is a one night only, fundraising concert event which will be presented at the Lincoln Theatre (769 E. Long St.) on Saturday, March 27, at 8 pm. Live accompaniment will be provided by ProMusica.

Performers include Darryl Cook and Christopher Griffin of Bexley; Julie Alton, David Campbell, Mary Gray, Alexandra Hovland, Anne Johnson, Peter Smith, Shyla Starnes, and Allison Walker of Clintonville; Chris Storer of downtown Columbus; 11-year-old Adam Crawford and Jeff Horst (recent resident) of Dublin; Whitney Eads and Ian Short of Gahanna; Ted Amore of German Village; Drew Eberly, Geoff Martin, and Liz Shannon of Grandview; Glenn Garcia and Liz Wheeler of Grove City; Linda Dorff of Hilliard; Jair Torres of Lima; Joe Bishara, Austin Bingman, and Susan Bunsold Wilson of Marysville; Dustin Grovemiller, Rick Paul, and Whitney Thiessen of Merion Village; Samantha Mastrain and Matthew Trombetta of Newark; Vanessa Jones of Powell; Katy Lynn Patterson of Upper Arlington; Kim Garrison Hopcraft of Westerville; Don Knoblauch of Whitehall; and Christopher Clapp of Wilmington.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the Ohio Theatre Ticket Office (39 E. State St.) or by phone at (614) 469-0939. A limited number of $100 VIP tickets are also available. The VIP ticket includes priority seating and a post-show reception with members of the cast and light fare. This special Phoenix presentation is made possible through the generous support of American Electric Power and Limitedbrands.

Set on the famous ocean liner RMS Titanic which sank on its maiden voyage on April 14, 1912, the musical Titanic opened on Broadway in 1997, and won five Tony Awards that year including best musical, book, orchestrations, set design, and score. Some notable songs include "Godspeed Titanic," a prayerful farewell as the fully-boarded ship pulls out of the harbor, "We'll Meet Tomorrow," when the men express hope of being reunited with their families as the final boat is lowered, and "Still," a duet between Isidor Straus (the owner of Macy's) and his wife Ida who remain behind together when she refuses to leave his side after 40 years of marriage.
