American Repertory Ballet (ARB) presents its highly anticipated world premiere, Beauty and the Beast, choreographed by the company's Resident Choreographer Kirk Peterson. Broadwayworld.com had the pleasure of interviewing Peterson about his career and the show.

American Ballet Theatre announced the formation of the ABT Women's Movement, a multi-year initiative to support the creation, exploration and staging of new works by female choreographers for ABT and the ABT Studio Company.  The initiative was announced today by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie.

Born on October 11, 1918 in New York City, Robbins was one of the major forces in 20th century performing arts. He received world renown for his choreography for New York City Ballet, where he spent much of his creative life, as well as for his work with American Ballet Theatre, Ballets: U.S.A., and other dance companies around the world. He received equal acclaim for his work as a director and choreographer of Broadway musicals, plays, movies, and television, winning five Tony Awards and two Academy Awards, as well as numerous other honors including the Handel Medallion of the City of New York (1976), the Kennedy Center Honors (1981), and the National Medal of the Arts (1988).

Arlene Shuler, New York City Center President and CEO, today announced programming for Balanchine: The City Center Years, the centerpiece of the 75th Anniversary Season. Beginning on October 31 (through Nov 4), an international roster of eight prestigious companies-American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, The Mariinsky Ballet, Miami City Ballet, New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet-perform thirteen works over six programs.

In September 2017, Works & Process presented 'Falls the Shadow,' a site-specific work made in and for the Guggenheim rotunda. Created by American Ballet Theatre principal Daniil Simkin, the work featured performances by Simkin, ABT soloist Cassandra Trenary, Hubbard Street dancers Ana Lopez and Brett Conway; choreography by Alejandro Cerrudo; projections by Dmitrij Simkin; interactive media by Arístides Job García Hernández; and costumes by Dior.

Showcasing extraordinary international and local artists, the upcoming Joyce season promises to offer something spectacular for all dance-lovers.

Programming for American Ballet Theatre's 2018 Fall season, October 17-28 at the David H. Koch Theater, was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The season will feature World Premieres by Michelle Dorrance and Jessica Lang, as well as centennial tribute performances of Jerome Robbins's and Leonard Bernstein's Fancy Free. The all - new production of Harlequinade, staged by Ratmansky after the original by Marius Petipa, will be given its World Premiere by American Ballet Theatre on June 4, 2018. A comic ballet in two - acts, Harlequinade is set to music by Riccardo Drigo and first premiered in 1900 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Chicago-based Big Foot Media (www.bigfootcreates.com) released a new music video today titled "Valse Triste," starring violinist Philippe Quint and The Joffrey Ballet's Christine Rocas. Set to a nearly forgotten Romantic gem, "Valse Triste" by Hungarian violinist and composer Ferenc von Vecsey, the video was directed by Tim Whalen, choreographed by Caitlin Meighan, written by Philippe Quint and co-produced by Big Foot Media andPhilippe Quint.

Few dancers reach the elite level of ballet; of that already small number only a fraction are black women. Misty Copeland shattered those barriers in 2015, making history as the first African American principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre (ABT).

On last night's LATE SHOW, as the first African American female principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, guest Misty Copeland talked about bringing diversity to classical ballet.

On the heels of being named the first female African-American principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland joined the cast of Broadway's ON THE TOWN on Tuesday, Augst 25th in the role of 'Ivy'. Copeland will be performing through September 6.
