Jonathan Shapiro is a former federal prosecutor who indicted and convicted cops for using excessive force against innocent suspects. 'Deadly Force: A Lizzie Scott Novel', to be published in February 2016 by Ankerwycke, is the ultimate insider's look into the nuts and bolts of a federal civil rights prosecution, the story of a shooting, as timely as it is powerful. Shapiro has spent the past 15 years writing and producing some of television's most iconic shows, including 'The Practice', and 'Boston Legal'. He has received an Emmy, a Peabody, and multiple Humanitas Awards. Shapiro, along with Emmy-award winning David E. Kelley, is one of the creators, writers and executive producers of 'Trial', an Amazon legal thriller starring Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt, set to air in 2016. He is formerly of counsel at Kirkland & Ellis, Los Angeles, where he specialized in entertainment law litigation. 'Deadly Force' is his first novel.

PLAYHOUSE CREATURES THEATRE has announced that it will present HUNTER GATHERERS, a black comedy about an annual dinner party that blurs the line between civilized and primal man, tonight, March 3 - March 28 at the Duo Theatre, 62 East 4th St. 2nd floor. Written by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb and directed by Eric Tucker (Wall Street Journal's 2014 Director of the year), The production will have its official opening on Saturday, March 7th at 8:00PM.

Last March, the West Coast premiere of the Yiddish Purim musical Di Megileh of Itzik Manger enjoyed a huge success, with four standing-room-only performances at the Jewish Community Center of the East Bay. In celebration of the 2015 Purim season, the New Yiddish Theater, in conjunction with the 30th Jewish Music Festival, takes pride in presenting a reprise with the same all-star lead performers and an updated choral arrangement. Performances will be given at 8 pm on February 26 & 28, March 1 & 3, with a matinee on Monday, March 2 at 1:30 pm. As before, all of the spoken and sung Yiddish will be super-titled in English.
