Stephen Schwartz & Dee Dee Bridgewater to Present at Bistro Awards Honoring Ben Vereen, 3/4

The 29th Annual Bistro Awards gala, set to take place on Tuesday, March 4, has announced two new presenters. Stephen Schwartz, the Oscar, Tony, Grammy, and Golden Globe-winning composer/lyricist, who wrote the scores to such musicals as Pippin, Wicked, Godspell, and The Magic Show, will present Ben Vereen, the Tony Award-winning actor-singer-dancer, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. And Dee Dee Bridgewater, who recently starred as Billie Holiday in the acclaimed Off-Broadway play 'Lady Day' and who can be listened to twice weekly in her own programs on the all-jazz nonprofit radio station WBGO, will present Amy Niles, acting president and CEO of the Newark-based station, with its award.

FirstWorks brings Martha Redbone Roots Project and music that chronicles the cross-roads of American experience to Providence to kick-off the organization's 10th year of presenting world-class performing arts and education programs. Hailed as 'Americana's next superstar', Redbone soulfully fuses her Cherokee, Choctaw and African-American heritage in a vibrant gumbo of funk and R&B. A live public performance at Aurora, a new cabaret lounge and art space in downtown Providence, featuring selections from Redbone's latest album 'Garden of Love-Songs for William Blake' will cap a two-day FirstWorks Arts Learning residency program engaging K-12 and university students from Rhode Island schools.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) collaborates with The Chicago Chamber Musicians (CCM) for their 13th annual family concert, presenting Fairy Tales by William Bolcom on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19, 2014, 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in Chicago Shakespeare Theater's Courtyard Theater on Navy Pier. The one-hour concert introduces families and children ages four and up to the joys of live performance as CST actors imaginatively retell classic fairy tales accompanied by music played by CCM ensemble members. Fairy Tales is directed by Scott Weinstein.
