Cherry Lane Theatre Announces Dates, Casting For 12th Annual Mentor Project

Performance dates, directors, initial casting and design team are set for the Cherry Lane Theatre's 12th annual Mentor Project - which includes the world-premiere of three plays by emerging writers: Ruth McKee's STRAY, directed by Giovanna Sardelli (BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO) and mentored by David Henry Hwang, performing March 16th through March 27th; Nate Rufus Edelman's THE BELLE OF BELFAST, directed by Eric Tucker (CLOSER) and mentored by Charles Fuller, performing April 27th through May 8th; and Winter Miller's PATERNITY, mentored and directed by celebrated playwright Craig Lucas, performing May 18th through May 29th, all at the Cherry Lane Theatre Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street).
Carla Gugino Joins Cast of CBS Films' New Thriller 'Faster'

Carla Gugino has signed on to the revenge thriller 'Faster,' a co-production of CBS Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group. The announcement was made today by Amy Baer, President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Films, the feature film division of CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS).

The 67th Golden Globe Awards were broadcast live on NBC last night from the Beverly Hilton. The awards ceremony was seen in more than 160 countries worldwide and is one of the few awards ceremonies that span both television and motion picture achievements. Winners of this year's awards include GLEE for Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical, Meryl Streep for 'Julie & Julia', Michael C. Hall for 'Dexter', Alec Baldwin for '30 Rock', John Lithgow for his role on 'Dexter', Christoph Waltz for 'Inglourious Basterds', and HBO's 'Grey Gardens'.

CBS Films has released the tease trailer for its new Beauty and the Beast remake, BEASTLY. Vanessa Hudgens and British actor Alex Pettyfer star in BEASTLY. The film is directed by Daniel Barnz and produced by Susan Cartsonis in association with CBS Films.

The TEEN CHOICE AWARDS 2009 took place last night at the Gibson Amphitheatre, Universal City, CA. At the live ceremony yesterday evening, Sunday August 9th, 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson claimed surf boards both for best movie actor and best hottie. The Jonas Brothers rode five boards to victory, but Miley Cyrus beat them, as she claimed six.

Miley Cyrus performed her newest single, 'Party in the U.S.A.,' at TEEN CHOICE 2009 last night. The performance filled show airs tonight, Monday, Aug. 10 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Additionally, the casts of 'Twilight' (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz) and FOX's new comedy series GLEE (Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Jenna Ushkowitz, Chris Colfer,Amber Riley and Kevin McHale) will also guest on the two-hour special.

Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID (Producer Thomas Schumacher) debuts a new recording of the show's ballad 'Her Voice' performed by Drew Seeley, now starring in the hit Broadway show as Prince Eric. Written for the stage musical by legendary composer and eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, the song was produced as a pop ballad for Seeley by Brian Malouf (Vice President of A&R, Walt Disney Records).

MTV reports that actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens doesn't want to appear in any more musicals. The 'High School Musical' star wants to stop singing for a spell to focus on sharpening her acting skills. The 'Bandslam' actress - who is currently filming her first non-musical role in 'Beastly' - also insisted to the music channel she has no plans to release any more albums.

Seeley made his Broadway debut in the production last night, Tuesday, June 9th. He will appear though Sunday, August 30th at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater (205 West 46th Street).
