AVENUE Q Opens Tonight at EPAC
by BWW News Desk
- May 2, 2013
It could be Sesame Street, but the neighborhood is shabbier. The residents look like the Muppets, but they're a lot more worldly. Plus, their human alter egos are very much a visible part of the zany, adult action. Welcome to Avenue Q, the runaway Broadway musical comedy that won the 2003 Tony Triple Crown of Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. Ten years later, it is still running strong off-Broadway in the intimate setting for which it was originally designed.

BWW Reviews: AVENUE Q is Part Flesh, Part Felt and Packed with Lots of Heart at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre
by Shari Barrett
- Mar 11, 2013
AVENUE Q, the zany, adult-themed spoof on Sesame Street, won the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. Now onstage through April 6 at Santa Monica's Morgan-Wixson Theatre, the show is part flesh, part felt and packed with lots of heart. With 2,534 performances, Avenue Q ranks 23rd on the list of longest running shows in Broadway history, and this production does the show proud.
BWW Reviews: Jefferson Performing Arts Society Presents AVENUE Q
by Heidi Scheuermann
- Jan 29, 2013
On Sunday, January 27 the Jefferson Performing Arts Society (JPAS) ended their run of AVENUE Q at the North Star Theater in Mandeville, LA. AVENUE Q was once described to me as "Sesame Street for big people," and I do not think I have heard a more accurate description. The cast is made up of people and puppets, and includes very adult content. While there are many good lessons to be learned from this show, it is not for the easily offended. It takes sensitive subjects such as racism and homosexuality, and makes light of them in a blunt and honest way.
BWW Reviews: DOMA's AVENUE Q Best of the Season
by Don Grigware
- Nov 27, 2012
This, my third viewing of the smash Tony Award winning musical superhit Avenue Q, was by far the most joyous and rewarding of all. This little show, like a Sesame Street for adults, plays out like life - only bigger - with off-the-wall grotesquely funny situations, hilarious one-liners and tantalizing music, each and every tune a winner. The show leaves you craving more, but unfortunately you only have through December 16 to see DOMA's splendid production at the Met Theatre in Hollywood. It's one thing to see this show on the huge Ahmanson or Pantages stages and quite another to see it on the smaller more intimate stage at the Met. This close-up intimacy enhances the enjoyment of the show 150%.
BWW Reviews: Naughty Puppet Goodness at Balagan's AVENUE Q
by Jay Irwin
- Nov 18, 2012
There's a certain amount of pressure when a theater company becomes the first in the area to produce a big name show locally. Yes, it's a coup to be the first to get the rights (and Balagan seems to be cornering the market on that this season) but they also need to do the show justice or else, why bother? This is why what Balagan is pulling off with their current production of "Avenue Q" is all the more spectacular. Not only have they put up one of the new hot shows but they've done it in a way that rivals any tour of the show and created an outstandingly fun time that will leave you grinning all the way home.

DOMA Theatre Company has struck gold with its final production of the 2012 season, a tightly crafted, well-played AVENUE Q directed by one of L.A.'s favorite local theatre directors, Richard Israel.
