Madison Square Park Conservancy to Host 'Poetry Under Fata Morgana,' 9/17

On Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 6:00PM to 7:30PM, Madison Square Park Conservancy will host Poetry Under Fata Morgana, a free, public poetry event showcasing leading voices in spoken word poetry and performance, organized by artist Teresita Fernandez and poet Emanuel Xavier.

Signature Theatre has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere production of Cake Off, a new musical by Sheri Wilner (Kingdom City), Julia Jordan (Murder Ballad) and Adam Gwon (Signature's The Boy Detective Fails). Directed by Signature's Director of New Works Joe Calarco (Signature's Gypsy, Shakespeare's R&J) this hilarious new musical is a battle-of-the-sexes set at the 50th Annual Millberry Cake-Off competition. Cake Off runs September 29 - November 22 in the ARK Theatre.

Playhouse on Park Welcomes New Teaching Artist for Young Actor Training Program

This class is open to middle school students (grades 5-8) who desire to improve their acting and performance technique. The Actor Performance Training Program is sectioned into three units, allowing for in-depth study of various acting topics. Students will begin with improvisation then they will learn how to create characters through Shakespearean text. For the final unit, students will be asked to incorporate what they have learned throughout the year into a devised theatre piece. The program will conclude with a showcase where they perform their original ensemble-generated performance.

The Public Theater has announced a one-week extension today for the New York premiere of ECLIPSED, written by Danai Gurira. Directed by Obie Award winner Liesl Tommy and featuring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o in her New York stage debut, this powerful story of survival and resilience begins previews at The Public Theater Tuesday, September 29 and was originally scheduled to run through Sunday, November 8. It will now run an additional week through Sunday, November 15 with an official press opening on Wednesday, October 14.
