Does evil trump goodness? Does darkness dim the light of mankind? These questions set the stage for Danish Dance Theatre's New York premiere of Black Diamond on Thursday, October 13th, the first of a four-day engagement at The Joyce Theatre. The company's first time back in the city since 2013, the full-length program meditated on the duality of nature and human existence through elaborate drama - in choreography, costumes and scenery - to create a complete alternate reality. But you know the saying: Sometimes, less is more.

STG presents a two-night engagement of DORRANCE DANCE WITH TOSHI REAGON AND BIGLOVELY IN 'THE BLUES PROJECT' at The Moore Theatre November 11-12 at 8pm. This innovative evening brings together today's best tap artists; musicians; choreographers Michelle Dorrance, Derick K. Grant, and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards; and acclaimed composer/musician Toshi Reagon with her band BIGLovely for an unforgettable night of rhythm, original live music, explosive energy, and raw emotion.

After its successful 2013 Joyce Theater debut, as part of Ice Hot: A Nordic Dance Festival, The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) proudly welcomes Danish Dance Theatre, one of Scandinavia's leading dance companies, back onto its stage with the US Premiere of Artistic Director Tim Rushton's Black Diamond from October 13 - 16.

Accompanying the performances of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company's Analogy Trilogy Parts I & II, presented at The Joyce Theater, will be a conversation with MacArthur Genius Award and National Medal of Arts recipient Bill T. Jones and renowned multi-media artist Carrie Mae Weems, moderated by the Director of the Columbia Center for Oral History Research Mary Marshall Clark.

Returning for it's 10th anniversary Season, The Dance Gallery Festival, mentor and launchpad for new choreographic talent since 2007, will return to NYC this fall with more than 30 artists presenting all new work in three distinct and separate programs. Alvin Ailey dancer/choreographer Sean Aaron Carmon, Andy Noble, Joshua L. Peugh, Gabrielle Lamb and Rohan Bhargava are among the national and international choreographers participating in the weekend event, Friday, November 11 through Sunday, November 13 at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, 248 West 60th Street. *Program line up below.

On the fall evening of October 1, 2016, it was City Center's 'tis the autumn season for the Fall for Dance Festival event. Four dance companies were headlining at this midtown venue-CNN de la Rochelle / Cie Accrorap, Ayodele Casel, Hong Kong Ballet, and Bangarra Dance Theatre. Each company was like the plethora of delicious international restaurants of Manhattan-the flavors and spices were unique and delightful to the senses.

On September 26, 2016, Joe Lanteri, founder and Executive Director of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation (NYCDAF), was recognized, along with philanthropists Barbara and Donald Tober, for their Outstanding Contributions to the World of Dance. Career Transition For Dancers, a program of the Actors Fund, hosted their 31st Anniversary Jubilee at the New York Marriott Marquis. 

The Joyce Theater Foundation and the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) will present the return of famed Paris-based choreographer Jerome Bel performing one of his most iconic evening length works, The show must go on, from October 20 - 22.  Jerome Bel's The show must go on is presented as part of FIAF's Crossing the Line Festival.

Award-winning Director and Choreographer, Arthur Pita, in collaboration with HeadSpaceDance, presents the world premiere of STEPMOTHER / STEPFATHER, a wickedly gruesome and darkly surreal double bill for the Halloween season.

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York's premiere French cultural center, is thrilled to unveil major renovations to Florence Gould Hall this Wednesday, September 28 with the opening performance of pioneering British theatre company Forced Entertainment's premiere of Tomorrow's Parties.

The critically acclaimed Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will perform Song of the Phoenix at Bailey Hall at Broward College in Davie, Florida, on September 24, 2016 at 7:30pm, with a master class and special performance for students on campus on Friday, September 23, 2016.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announce legendary tap innovator and choreographer Brenda Bufalino as the recipient of the 2016 NY Dance and Performance Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dance; and The Jerome Robbins Dance Division of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and Alex Smith, Executive Chairman of the Thelma Hill Performing Arts Center, as this year's recipients of Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance.

BalletCollective's 2016 Season, entitled “What Comes Next,” will further explore the company's unique collaborative process with world premiere works featuring two collaborations pairing architects Carlos Arnaiz and James Ramsey with composers Judd Greenstein and Ellis Ludwig-Leone respectively.

BalletX, Philadelphia's Premier Contemporary Ballet, unveils its 2016-17 Season. Following a decade of world premiere work in Philadelphia, paired with consistent national touring, which most recently included residencies at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Vail International Dance Festival, and The Joyce Theater, BalletX has emerged as 'a place of choreographic innovation,' according to The New Yorker, and 'one of the country's primary producers of new ballet,' as stated in The Denver Post. The 2016-17 Season includes four series in Philadelphia, three at The Wilma Theater - Fall Series 2016 (Nov. 16-20), Winter Series 2017 (Feb. 10-19), Spring Series 2017 (Apr. 26-30) - and Summer Series 2017 (July 12-16) at the Prince Theater, while the Wilma undergoes renovations in July of 2017.

On Sunday, September 18, 2016, Works & Process at the Guggenheim presents excerpts of Kate Weare Company's: Marksman with an original score by saxophonist Curtis Robert Macdonald at 7:30pm.
