FST Announces 2015 Young Playwright's Festival Winners; Ceremony Set for 5/9

FST is proud to announce the winning plays of this year's Young Playwright's Festival. Playwrights have been hard at work creating their own original scenes, characters, and dialogue. However, these playwrights are not what you might expect - that is, they are all students ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade. FST is proud to announce that this year's winning plays have now been selected and are being presented in UNDER SIX which runs through May 22.
Florida Studio Theatre Launches Kids Comedy Lab Today

Kids have the best laughs. When they think something is funny, you'll know it. That's why beginning today, April 4, FST Improv will now be performing a show for all ages, Kids Comedy Lab. These Today matinee performances begin at 2pm and are perfect for a great afternoon out with the kids. Doors open at 1pm. Tickets are $6 with free admission for kids 5 and under, making it affordable and fun to bring the whole family. Fruit roll-up and juice box will be provided.

Factory 449: a theatre collective, coming off four 2015 Helen Hayes Award nominations for its production of Jessica Dickey's The Amish Project, presents CLOSET LAND by Radha Bharadwaj (Basil). Directed by Helen Hayes Award-winner Rick Hammerly and featuring Factory 449 Company Members Sara Barker and David Lamont Wilson, CLOSET LAND performs April 17 to May 10, 2015 at Anacostia Arts Center (1231 Good Hope Road, SE).
InterAct Theatre Company Premieres UNCANNY VALLEY, Now thru 4/25

InterAct Theatre Company continues its 2014/2015 season of world premieres with Uncanny Valley by Thomas Gibbons. The second of four National New Play Network rolling world premieres, Uncanny Valley is directed by InterAct's Producing Artistic Director Seth Rozin and features local actors Sally Mercer and Frank X (last seen in Permanent Collection). The show runs tonight, April 3-April 26 at The Adrienne, 2030 Sansom Street. Opening Night is Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 pm.
FST to Open 2014-15 Burdick Reading Series This Month

Florida Studio Theatre announces its annual Richard and Betty Burdick New Play Reading Series, which will present three new staged readings by contemporary American playwrights. The series will take place in the Keating Theatre on Saturday, April 25 at 2:00pm, Saturday, May 2 at 2:00pm, and Saturday, May 9 at 2:00pm, and is part of FST's Sarasota Festival of New Plays. Tickets for the series are 3 staged readings for $25, or individual readings for $10. Additionally, FRIENDS of FST can purchase a subscription for all 3 staged readings for $15. They may be purchased by calling the FST Box Office at (941) 366-9000 or by visiting floridastudiotheatre.org.
Tampa Repertory Theatre to Present BETRAYAL, 5/7-24

April 2, 2015 Tampa Repertory Theatre will present Harold Pinter's groundbreaking drama Betrayal, opening May 7 in the Studio Theatre at HCC Ybor and running through May 24. Performance times are 7:30 PM on Thursdays, 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3:00 PM on Sundays. Tickets are $20; $15 tickets are available to students, seniors and military personnel. The HCC Ybor Studio Theatre is located at 2204 N 15th Street, Ybor City, at the corner of East Palm Avenue and North 14th Street (Avenida Republica de Cuba). The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 48th and 49th Rolling World Premieres: Chad Beckim's Lights Rise on Grace and Lauren Yee's in a word, as well as openings for its 43rd, 44th, and 47th plays, Uncanny Valley by Thomas Gibbons, Colossal by Andrew Hinderaker, and River City by Diana Grisanti.
'DANGEROUS WORLDS' Panel Set for FST Stage III Tonight

Florida Studio Theatre has never shied away from theatre that challenges audiences to explore all sides of humanity - the good and the bad. The return of FST's Stage III series definitely carries on this tradition with Mark Nadler's production, I'm A Stranger Here Myself. In conjunction with this production, FST and The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee County present the panel discussion, Dangerous Worlds: Reflections on pre-WWII Germany and the roots of hatred and anti-Semitism today. The discussion will be held tonight, April 2 at 5pm, in the Keating Theatre.
