Actors' Theatre Grand Rapids to Workshop New Play by Betsy Howie

Actors' Theatre has announced the first script workshop for the 2015-2016 season! This coming July, Actors' will be hosting nationally-recognized playwright, actress, and author Betsy Howie for a two week script workshop of her latest work, Stella Remembered. Betsy will be joined by Emmy Award-winning screenwriter/producer Rodney Vaccaro as director, actors Joyce Bean, Lynne Brown-Tepper, Neil Patrick Trevisan, Ruth Ann Molenaar and Kyle Los, and producer Kathy Keehn. For eight days the team will read and work through the script allowing Betsy to make revisions. On July 23 and 24 there will be public staged readings.

IRT and Ricochet Collective welcome Jody Flader (The Slug Bearers... at The Vineyard) to the cast of the World Premiere of GORDY CRASHES, by Sam Byron. Directed by Sherri Eden Barber, previews began June 5 at IRT Theater with opening night slated for tonight, June 12. Flader replaces Clea Alsip, who leaves to join the cast of Neil Labute's The Way We Get By with Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski.

The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, is now accepting new play submissions. In the eighth annual search for a resident playwright, the division is calling for new dramatic works written exclusively by playwrights of color. The division is also seeking ensemble plays for casts of seven to ten female roles or gender neutral roles; playwrights of all ethnicities are welcome to apply with an ensemble play.

The first official revival of the play since its premiere in 1986, the dreamer examines his pillow will play a strictly-limited Off-Broadway engagement at The Flea Theater (41 White Street, Tribeca) Saturday, July 25th through Saturday, August 15th. More than 50 actors are set to participate in The Blank Theatre's 23rd Annual Young Playwrights Festival, including Deborah S. Craig (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Julie Gonzalo (Dallas), Echo Kellum (Sean Saves the World, Ben & Kate), Missi Pyle (Gone Girl), Sara Rue (Rules of Engagement, Impastor), Lindsey Shaw (Pretty Little Liars), and Virginia Williams (Fairly Legal). Rosendorf One Productions has announced that it will present DEVOTED DREAMS, a new dark comedy about a young man who takes on the business world, battling an insurmountable work load, brutal bosses and overbearing parents at The Beckett Theatre, Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd St. Written by Christopher B. Latro and directed by Anna Bamberger, the production began previews on May 27 at 2PM and has its official opening tonight, May 29 at 8PM. The run will continue through June 27.

Theatre East and Yale Alumni Association of New York will present Elizabeth Parrish with the Laurette Taylor Award tonight, May 28th at Ramscale Studio South, 463 West Street, in the West Village Highline district, NYC. The benefit starts at 7pm with an exclusive cocktail reception, followed by dinner at 8pm. The award will be presented to Ms. Parrish by Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black). Michael Feinstein, Molly Pope, John Early and Jonah Verdon will join the previously announced headliners Melissa Errico, Liz Callaway, The Skivvies, Michael McElroy, Lauren Worsham, Cyrille Aimee, Rachel York, Adam Kantor, Randy Graff, Kim David Smith, Danielle Grabianowski, Julie Hill, Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson to headline the fifth annual "Night Of A Thousand Judys" - presented by The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre - on Monday, June 1. The Pride concert to benefit The Ali Forney Center will take place at Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Center (129 West 67th Street in Manhattan). Called "a rambunctious, uproarious, unpredictable all-star concert" by The Wall Street Journal, "Night Of A Thousand Judys" will honor the iconic Judy Garland with special skits, tributes and songs from her legendary career as movie star, recording artist and stage performer. There will be a pre-show VIP reception at 6:30 PM and the performance at 8:00 PM.
