Cherry Lane Theatre to Launch Summer Education Series

Cherry Lane Theatre will present the first ever summer education series in the theatre's 90-year history, CHERRY LANE SCHOOL - a weeklong intensive offering interactive Master Classes with writers, actors, movement directors, social media experts, etc. - from June 22 to 26 at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. in Greenwich Village), it has been announced by Angelina Fiordellisi, the theatre's Founding Artistic Director.

CHERRY LANE SCHOOL joins a host of other development and production programs that have made Cherry Lane Theatre one of the most enduring Off-Broadway theatres in the country: Mentor Project, Solo Fest!, Celebrating Women Playwrights, Celebrating Black Playwrights, Discovery Series and Heritage Series.

CHERRY LANE SCHOOL will kick off with THE ELEMENTS OF STORYTELLING by MATT WILLIAMS, the celebrated television writer who created the wildly successful TV series HOME IMPROVEMENT and ROSEANNE. The workshop will focus on the differences between writing for television, stage and film and addresses such pertinent topics as "What makes a story compelling?" Participants will create a basic plot line for a TV pilot, play or movie. MONDAY, JUNE 22 from 7 to 9 pm.

THE DIVINE ACT: TO THINK OR NOT TO THINK will be conducted by ANGELINA FIORDELLISI, whose many acting credits include the musical ZORBA on Broadway, NUNSENSE Off-Broadway and the recent SNOW ORCHID by Joe Pintauro on Theater Row. The class will explore how to synthesize intellect, body, heart and spirit in the development of a multi-dimensional character. In addition to serving as Artistic Director of Cherry Lane Theatre, Ms. Fiordellisi holds a BFA in acting from University of Detroit, Jesuit College and an MFA from Asolo Conservatory. She studied professionally with Stella Adler, Sanford Meisner and Jose Quintero. TUESDAY, JUNE 23 from 7 to 9 pm.

PERSONAL ALCHEMY by DAVID ANZUELO - the movement director (BASILICA, AND I AND SILENCE) and an actor seen most recently Off-Broadway in INTIMACY - will demonstrate his approach to movement through Eastern and Western body and energy techniques. A physically demanding and emotionally-charged workshop, the class is designed to help actors access and connect the energies of their mind and body in a manner not typically presented in theater classes. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24 from 7 to 10 pm.

ATMOSPHERIC WRITING with ANTON DUDLEY - author of the plays SLAG HEAP at Cherry Lane Theatre and the recent CITY OF with Playwrights Realm is devoted to addressing the physical manifestation of a play's conflict. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24 from 7 to 9 pm.

WRITING FROM THE OUTSIDE IN - playwright WINTER MILLER - author of IN DARFUR (Public Theater), THE PENETRATION PLAY (P13) and PATERNITY, presented by Cherry Lane's Mentor Project - will discuss "Writing >From The Outside In," about what happens to a writer when an unexpected character walks into their play, a total stranger to the playwright. THURSDAY, JUNE 25 from 3 to 5 pm.

FUCT - the underground comedy troupe will present an evening of COMEDY MASTER CLASS: IMPROV, SKETCH WRITING & PERFORMANCE. FUCT is an improv comedy troupe that challenges what audiences typically find offensive or taboo, taking on such hot-button topics as political correctness. THURSDAY, JUNE 25 from 7 to 10 pm.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING FOR CREATIVES - social media expert Lillian Rodriuez will offer her course in "Social Media Therapy," addressing such timely and relevant topics as - how not to feel intimidated or stymied in today's social media obsessed world. She will guide participants - artists and independent professionals - through discussions of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media outlets. THURSDAY, JUNE 25 from 7 to 9 pm.

THEATER, PERFORMANCE AND POLITICAL ACTIVISM - Playwright and actress Lisa Ramirez -- author of Cherry Lane's acclaimed production of TO THE BONE last season and previously EXIT CUCKOO -- will lead this workshop that explores the ways that the 'personal' becomes 'political' and its relationship with theater-making past and present, including a look at the history of political theater. FRIDAY, JUNE 26 from 3 to 5 pm.

AUDITIONING FOR THEATER - Casting associate at The Public Theater and casting director for Cherry Lane Theatre's Mentor Project, Kate Murray will work with participants on assigned material, focusing on developing technique for stage auditions. FRIDAY, JUNE 26 from 7 to 10 pm.

CHERRY LANE SCHOOL will conclude the week with a free wrap party for all participants on June 26 at 10 pm.
