Attic Theater to Stage John Patrick Shanley's THE DREAMER EXAMINES HIS PILLOW This Summer at The Flea

The Attic Theater Company presents John Patrick Shanley's (pictured, left) the dreamer examines his pillow, directed by Laura Braza. The first official revival of the play since its premiere in 1986, the dreamer examines his pillow will play a strictly-limited Off-Broadway engagement at The Flea Theater (41 White Street, Tribeca) Saturday, July 25th through Saturday, August 15th. Written by Pulitzer Award and Tony Award-winning playwright, Academy Award-winning screenwriter, and theatre and film director John Patrick Shanley, the dreamer examines his pillow examines one couple's attempt to find their way through the maze of love, lust, and art. Through three scenes, we follow Tommy and Donna, passionate on-again/off-again lovers. When Donna turns to her emotionally distant father for advice, a charged conversation leads him to insist that he talk to Tommy . . . to get him to marry her, or beat him up . . . leading to a tenuous detente.

The cast of the dreamer examines his pillow features Lauren Nicole Cipoletti (Macbeth at CSC) as Donna, Shane Patrick Kearns (who will be seen opposite Jacqueline Bisset in the upcoming feature film Peter and John, and was recently seen in The Sky and the Limit at 59E59) as Tommy, and Dennis Parlato (seen on Broadway in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Sound of Music, Chess, A Chorus Line, and on "Guiding Light," "Loving," "One Life to Live" on television) as Dad.

the dreamer examines his pillow has scenic design by Julia Noulin-Merat, lighting design by David Upton, and sound design by Beth Lake. The casting director is Judy Bowman, CSA.

John Patrick Shanley (Playwright) is from The Bronx, New York. His other plays include Outside Mullingar, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Savage in Limbo, Italian-American Reconciliation, Welcome to the Moon, Four Dogs and a Bone, Dirty Story, Defiance, Beggars in the House of Plenty and Storefront Church. His theatrical work is performed extensively across the United States and around the world. For his play, Doubt, he received both the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize. In the arena of screenwriting, he has nine films to his credit, most recently Doubt, with Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, which was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay. The film of Doubt was also directed by Shanley. Other films include Five Corners (Special Jury Prize, Barcelona Film Festival), Alive, Joe Versus the Volcano, which he also directed, and Live From Baghdad for HBO (Emmy nomination). For his script of Moonstruck he received both the Writers Guild of America Award and an Academy Award for best original screenplay. The Writers Guild of America awarded Shanley the 2009 Lifetime Achievement in Writing.

Laura Braza (Director) is a freelance director, producer, script editor, and teaching artist in addition to helming the Attic as Artistic Director. Attic credits include Moonchildren, Dark Rapture, Wonderful World, This One Time In Last Chance, The Time of Your Life, The Tutors, The Notebook of Trigorin, and Strictly Dishonorable, in addition to producing and directing numerous staged readings and workshops. Other recent directing credits include The Dispute and If You Give a Pig a Pancake (Hangar Theater); Henry VI Part 2, Speed-the-Plow, and Red Light Winter (UNC School of the Arts); Speed-the-Plow, Escape from Happiness and Women of Lockerbie (Stella Adler/NYU), and work at NYMF, Atlantic Theater Company Stage II, Samuel French OOB, FringeNYC, Manhattan Theater Source, Dixon Place. Presented by the Attic Theater Company, the dreamer examines his pillow will be performed at The Flea Theater (41 White Street, Tribeca) Saturday, July 25th through Saturday, August 15th, 2015.
