School of Rock-The Musical may not hit Broadway until later this year, but a select group of people are currently getting a sneak peek at the Grammercy Theatre to watch an early version of the new musical. NBC has announced that Tony nominated actress Chita Rivera will be a guest on THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON tonight, June 4th.

Creator Andrew Lloyd Webber has invited guests (scroll down to read the full, official invitation letter!) to the Grammercy Theatre to watch an early version of SCHOOL OF ROCK-THE MUSICAL. Tickets are now on sale for the preview concerts, scheduled for tonight, June 3 at 7:30pm, tomorrow, June 4 at 7:30pm, Friday, June 5 at 7:30pm and Saturday, June 6 at 2:00pm.

ABC has announced that Jim Parsons, star of Broadway's AN ACT OF GOD, will appear on THE VIEW today, June 2nd. Author Judy Blume will also appear on the broadcast.

The Shubert Foundation announces a record total of $24 million in grants to 488 not-for-profit performing arts organizations across 46 States. The 2015 grants mark the 33rd consecutive year the Foundation has increased its giving.

The producers of the critically acclaimed Broadway production of David Hare's SKYLIGHT, directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Stephen Daldry and starring Carey Mulligan, Bill Nighy, and Matthew Beard, have announced that the production has recouped its entire capitalization.

According to the New York Times, creator Andrew Lloyd Webber has invited guests to the Grammercy Theatre to watch an early version of the new musical. He writes in the invitation: 'Someone up there in cyberspace has intimated that you might be interested in an invitation to a rather unusual theater event. The very first incarnation of 'School of Rock' will be a staged, actually highly staged concert at the Gramercy Theater for just a few performances.' The article also reveals that the show, which begins previews on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Winter Garden Theatre, will star Alex Brightman (Wicked, Big Fish, Matilda) as substitute teacher, Dewey. The new Broadway comedy An Act of God, starring Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jim Parsons, began performances on May 7 and officially opens tonight, May 28, 2015 at Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street).

STARS IN THE ALLEY, presented by United Airlines, was held just yesterday in Shubert Alley, hosted by Darren Criss who is currently playing Hedwig in the 2014 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. To add to the festivities leading up to the Tony Awards, the free outdoor concert in the heart of the Theatre District celebrated Broadway with star appearances and exciting performances from over 20 new shows and long-running favorites, accompanied by a 12-piece live orchestra, including many of this year's 2015 Tony Award - nominated plays and musicals! It was announced today that the new Broadway musical Doctor Zhivago, which opened at the Broadway Theatre on April 21st, 2015, will record its cast album on Thursday, May 28th

Musical theatre star Betty Buckley recently spent time backstage at THE VISIT with Chita Rivera. In an Instagram post, Buckley wrote, 'Backstage at 'The Visit'with the incredible Broadway Star, Ms. Chita Rivera! My eyes are red from crying at the beauty of this special piece of Art & theater, centered around the extraordinary performance by beloved Chita! Amazing! She touched my heart & soul so deeply! BroadwayWorld has learned that Roger Rees is currently on leave from The Visit, and in his place, Tom Nelis is temporarily stepping in as Anton Schell. No word yet on the duration of the hiatus. Of note, the star has also been swapped out for Nelis on the show's official web site. According to audience member reports, Nelis is giving a stellar performance in the role opposite the legendary Chita Rivera. Keep checking BroadwayWorld as we learn more!

Robert E. Wankel, Chairman of the Broadway League and President & Co-CEO of the Shubert Organization announced today that the League's Executive Committee has elected Charlotte St. Martin to the position of President. The Broadway League is the trade association representing commercial theatre in the United States, whose members include producers, theatre owners, and presenters of Broadway across the country and internationally.

Theater fans, celebrities and industry insiders grabbed their seats at poker tables on Monday, May 18, 2015, to raise $137,200 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS at the inaugural edition of Broadway Bets. Hosted by Sardi's restaurant in the heart of New York City's theatre district, Broadway Bets(#broadwaybets), a first-of-its-kind Broadway poker tournament, offered the theatre community a new and unique way to support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
