1140 Productions adapts William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet for a contemporary audience. While still maintaining the Shakespearean language, this version, Romeo Juliet, clashes the classical language with a contradictory style that changes this setting of woe into a nondescript time or place, making it even more relevant and haunting than ever.

The Colony Theatre is thrilled to present the first production of its historic 40thAnniversary season, the World Premiere of FAMILY PLANNING by Michelle Kholos Brooks. The production stars Christina Pickles and Bruce Weitz, who between them have a combined total of 14 Emmy nominations, and is directed by Cameron Watson, who has been heralded as 'one of our finest contemporary directors' by The Los Angeles Times, while The Wall Street Journal declared his work 'the best in the country.'

Humber River Shakespeare Co., now in its seventh season of outdoor summer touring, presents Shakespeare's beloved romantic tragedy ROMEO & JULIET.

The Hypocrites are pleased to launch their 2014-15 Season with the world premiere of ALL OUR TRAGIC, an unparalleled twelve-hour theatrical adaptation that combines all 32 surviving Greek tragedies into a single epic narrative, adapted and directed by Founding Artistic Director Sean Graney*, playing August 2 - October 5, 2014 at its new home, The Den Theatre, 1329 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago.

The City Shakespeare Company opens the doors to its summer production of Romeo & Juliet on July 11th. They kick off the run with a red carpet masquerade ball in honor of the famous 'ancient feast' in the story, and run through July 26th.

This summer, dreams really do come true and the passion of young love is alive at Coronado Playhouse with two classic love stories that have very different endings.

Tickets are now on-sale for the 28th Annual Alaska Theatre of Youth Play Festival. Tickets are $8-$10. The festival is on June 27 and 28.

To some, Romeo & Juliet is a story of two teenagers blinded by lust and driven to unspeakable acts, yet at its heart, it is a love story that transcends age and time. In Half Shadow Players' production of STAR CROSS'D, directors Lizzy Ferdinandi and Jessica Gaupel (who also co-founded the company) combine haunting contemporary music with Shakespeare's text to create a 50-minute movement-oriented retelling of the classic love story.

Performances are free to the public and will be held at Summit Rock, Central Park May 29,30, 31 June 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, St. Nicholas Park, Harlem June 11, 12, 18, 19, Sunset Park, Brooklyn June 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, and Morningside Park, Manhattan June 26, 27, 28, 29. All performances are at 6:00pm.

Love and Pizza…and Shakespeare! That's what authors Kim Askew and Amy Helmes have cooked up Chicago-style in ANYONE BUT YOU, book three of their popular Twisted Lit series for young adults. Each of the stand-alone books takes a classic Shakespearean story and spins it into a modern tale that is fresh and fun for today's teens (or anyone in the mood for an entertaining, light summer read).

In I AM ROMEO & JULIET, Joel Isaac Rivas recounts a queer young individual's journey of self-discovery using the story of Romeo and Juliet. As Shakespeare's play unfolds we begin to realize that his/her genderqueer identity carries the spirit of both Romeo and Juliet. The family feud and disapproval of the two star-crossed lovers compares to his/her divided 'families:' the straight and LGBTQ communities.

Performances are free to the public and will be held at Summit Rock, Central Park May 29,30, 31 June 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, St. Nicholas Park, Harlem June 11, 12, 18, 19, Sunset Park, Brooklyn June 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, and Morningside Park, Manhattan June 26, 27, 28, 29. All performances are at 6:00pm.
