This summer, dreams really do come true and the passion of young love is alive at Coronado Playhouse with two classic love stories that have very different endings.

The musical version of the romantic fairy tale, SLEEPING BEAUTY or The Famous Rose Taboo, book and lyrics by Barbara Fried and music by Norman Sachs, opens the Summer of Love series with a limited run June 12th - June 22nd for young audiences and families. This is the ultimate heartwarming tale of love conquering all complete with the beautiful princess, handsome prince and fairy godmother. SLEEPING BEAUTY or The Famous Rose Taboo has been adapted for the stage, with charmingly lyrical songs and plenty of hilarity. The show has a total running time of just under an hour and a half, a perfect pace for the entire family and the young at heart of all ages!

William Shakespeare's romance, Romeo and Juliet, continues our Summer of Love and is our 18th annual FREE Classics production made possible by a grant from the City of Coronado. The timeless love story runs June 27th-July 20th and is a fast paced, modern interpretation of the feud between Capulets and Montagues. Audiences will experience Shakespeare's original text in a contemporary setting with the lovelorn Romeo and Juliet and their families dressed in current day attire as the bittersweet tragedy unfolds on the streets of what could be any major city in the world. There is open seating at each performance and limited free tickets available for patrons.

During both productions, Coronado Playhouse, the Community's Theatre, is raising awareness and money to benefit the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. The non-profit organization provides a "home away from home" to families with children undergoing treatment for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. Far from home and under tremendous stress, these families are often without a place to sleep other than a hospital couch, a costly hotel room, or even their car. Every year, more than 1,500 families are helped.

Enjoy a bounce house, face painting, prizes and meet your favorite characters from the story before seeing them on stage.

Coronado Playhouse is one collection spot for the annual Ronald McDonald RED SHOE DAY event Thursday June 26th. We will also fill the shoe with donations throughout the run of Romeo and Juliet.
