THE GLASS MENAGERIE Comes to Fulton Theatre

From the Pulitzer Prize-winning play wright Tennessee Williams, take a look through the fading memory books of Tom's fractured life in The Glass Menagerie. Living with his controlling mother and introverted sister Laura, who lives in her own world of make believe, Tom struggles as the pillar of his family. As the memories are revealed, Tom and his mother Amanda, wish for nothing more than for Laura to find a loving husband. When Tom sets up a blind date for his sister with his coworker from the shoe warehouse, Amanda's obsession and frustration is pushed to new extremes, while Laura is left vulnerable and exposed like her glass figurines.

Inspired by the real junk bond giants of the 1980s, Akhtar explores how the riveting, hostile takeover of a family-owned manufacturing company paved the way to expose the rise of greed, power, race and wealth that led to reshaping the rules of Wall Street and the world. Directed by Jackie Maxwell, Junk runs April 5 - May 5, 2019 in the Fichandler Stage.

Sarasota Opera Announces 2019-2020 Season

Sarasota Opera announced its 2019-2020 Fall and Winter Festival Seasons today at a press conference held on the Sarasota Opera House main stage in Sarasota, Florida. Artistic director and principal conductor Victor DeRenzi and executive director Richard Russell presided over the event and were joined by principal artists performing selected arias from the upcoming seasons' works.

In February The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre presents Every Brilliant Thing, Duncan MacMillan's one-character play described by The Guardian as "one of the funniest plays you'll see about depression." Claire Marie Mannle inhabits the role - rarely performed by a female protagonist - of a young person determined to list every brilliant thing about life in an attempt to ward off her mother's suicidal tendencies. The play, performed in the round on the Scoundrel & Scamp's mainstage, is directed by Michelle Milne. The season runs February 7-24, 2019. Just in time for Valentine's Day, Pioneer Theatre Company presents the romantic, Tony Award-winning musical Once, with music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova and book by Enda Walsh. Based on the motion picture written and directed by John Carney, the Sundance film-turned-Broadway-hit won eight Tonys, including Best Musical. The touching love ballad, 'Falling Slowly,' also won the Oscar for Best Song. It runs February 15 through March 2, 2019.

A BRONX TALE is a musical adapted from a film that was once a one man show written by Chazz Palminteri. The Broadway Smash premiered with previews on November 3, 2016, and officially opened December 1, 2016 at the Longacre Theatre. Launching its North American Tour in the Fall of 2018 the musical features music written by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater and book written by the original one man show stopper Chazz Palminteri. While on its tour stop in Tampa at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, we as the opening-night audience were truly thrust into Old City New York full of Mobsters and Italian lessons to boot.
