DISENCHANTED! to Open Off-BroadwayDISENCHANTED! to Open Off-Broadway

Producers Don Frantz (Beauty and the Beast) and Jonathan Pollard (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) are thrilled to announce that the new musical comedy DISENCHANTED! will make its New York premiere in a limited 9-week engagement at Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46th St. at 9th Avenue) beginning previews on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Opening night is set for Thursday, December 4, 2014. With book, music and lyrics by Dennis T. Giacino, DISENCHANTED! is directed by Fiely A. Matias and features musical staging by Matt West (Lestat). Tickets are available exclusively to Audience Rewards (www.audiencerewards.com) members beginning Thursday, September 11, 2014 and will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, September 18, 2014. The MFA Musical Theatre Program has invited contemporary music theatre composer Ryan Scott Oliver to be a composer-in-residence from April 28-May 7, 2014. Mr. Oliver will work with the current MFA Musical Theatre students as well as selected alumni to present a reading of his new work, We Foxes, on Monday, May 5 at 7:30pm at the Experimental Theatre on the San Diego State University campus. We Foxes is directed by Paula Kalustian with music direction by Robert Meffe. (more...)

Prospect Theater Company will hold a talkback with director Elizabeth Lucas and cast members from the critically-acclaimed production of Adam Guettel's Myths and Hymns following the Thursday, February 23 performance. Among the cast members in attendance will be Bob Stillman, Anika Larsen and Matthew Farcher. In addition, a 5pm performance has been added on Saturday, February 25. When The Public Theater premiered Adam Guettel's Myths and Hymns in 1998 - under the title Saturn Returns - it was presented as a simple song cycle using chamber arrangements of pop, gospel and classical styles in a loose theme of exploring the human relationship to faith, utilizing traditional hymns and ancient myths.  In the new production presented by Prospect Theater Company, director Elizabeth Lucas, through snippets of connecting dialogue and short, silent scenes, gives the evening a bit of a narrative.  The result is too thin to add any dramatic heft, but not so intrusive as to distract from the poetry of the material and the tender and touching performances of her beautifully singing cast.
