Montego Glover and More to Star in The Old Globe's THE ROYALE; Cast & Creatives Set!

The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Marco Ramirez's ('Orange is the New Black,' 'Sons of Anarchy') wildly theatrical new play The Royale, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated Rachel Chavkin. Founding Artistic Director of New York's the TEAM, Chavkin most recently won accolades for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Post Critics's Picks, and Top Ten of 2012 and 2013). The Royale will run October 4 to November 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run October 4 - 8. Richmond Shepard, who continues to juggle a boatload of activities - from critic and writer, to teacher, performer and bon vivant - is pushing the envelope once again. National New Play Network to Present MFA PLAYWRIGHTS' WORKSHOP, 7/26-8/3

The National New Play Network (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, in collaboration with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and Stanford University's National Center for New Plays, will host nearly fifty playwrights, directors and dramaturgs July 26 - August 3, 2014 as part of a week-long workshop for new works by MFA students from New York University-Tisch School of the Arts, Hunter College, University of California-San Diego, and the Juilliard School. A committee of NNPN Core Members has selected six scripts written by Hilary Bettis, Nathan Cann, Bennett Fisher, David Jacobi, Georgette Kelly, and Amy Witting. The Workshop will also feature projects by the National Theatre School of Canada's Geoffrey Simon Brown and Atlanta's Alliance Theatre's Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Prize-winner Tsehaye Geralyn Hebert. Joining the cast of five is Michael Kingsbaker, who replaces the previously announced Chris Stack. Written by the husband-and-wife duo of Justine Lambert and Kenneth Nowell, 'The Goddess' also features Tricia Alexandro, Claudia Mason, Larry Mitchell, and Sarah Nedwek. Alice Jankell directs. Justine Lambert and Kenneth Nowell's 'The Goddess,' a modern-day fairy tale about an open marriage, receives its world premiere at the Write Act Rep Theatre, 309 East 26th Street, beginning Thursday October 10. Directed by Alice Jankell, this new comedy features a cast of five including Tricia Alexandro, Claudia Mason, Larry Mitchell, Sarah Nedwek and Chris Stack. Produced by the Looking Glass Theatre, now in its 20th season, the four-week engagement plays through Sunday November 3, with an opening set for Sunday October 13 at 3pm. (more...)
