Playwrights Horizons presents FAR FROM HEAVEN, a new musical with book by Tony Award winner and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out, Three Days of Rain), music by Tony Award nominee Scott Frankel (Grey Gardens) and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Michael Korie (Grey Gardens, The Grapes of Wrath), opening tonight, July 19 through July 29 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival this summer.

Castillo Theatre Announces Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Play Contest Winners

The Castillo Theatre is presenting four winning scripts from the 2012 Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Play Contest, selected from over 200 entries including submissions by playwrights from around the world. The plays are being directed by distinguished theatre professionals and will be presented on Mondays, August 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 7:00 p.m.

With baseball season in full swing, NATIONAL PASTIME, a new screwball musical comedy, will make its New York debut, beginning performances Off-Broadway on August 8, 2012 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Playwrights Horizons in Manhattan (416 West 42nd Street).

Paul Dobie to Direct World Premiere of RATED M FOR MATURE at FringeNYC

Rated M for Mature, which will make its world premiere this summer at the Cherry Lane Theatre as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, is inspired by real events and will feature direction from Paul Dobie (currently the Assistant Director of Wicked who also served as AD on the Broadway productions of Thoroughly Modern Millie, Glengarry Glen Ross and Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me). The production will run from Wed. 8/22 thru Sun. 8/26 and is produced by Ryan Duncan (the original casts of Shrek and Altar Boyz).

Sarah Ruhl Presents Chamber Version of MELANCHOLY PLAY, Now thru 7/27

13P, the innovative collective of 13 playwrights, is about to culminate the mission it set forth upon its founding in 2003: to produce one play by each of its members. Pulitzer Finalist, TONY Award nominee and MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship recipient Sarah Ruhl (P#13) is creating a new, chamber version of her Melancholy Play (2001) with the composer Todd Almond and Davis McCallum, who directed a version of the work in 2002.

The Tony Award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theatre kicks off its new season in August with the West Coast premiere of Chinglish. David Henry Hwang won three Obies and the Tony Award for Best Play with popular scripts like M. Butterfly and FOB. Now he's back with a canny comedy of cross-cultural errors. Two-time Obie-winner Leigh Silverman returns to the Roda Theatre to stage the play.

The Colony Theatre presents the second production of its "Season of Premieres" with the West Coast Premiere Premiere of BLAME IT ON BECKETT, written by John Morogiello and directed by Andrew Barnicle. BLAME IT ON BECKETT will preview on Wednesday, August 8; Thursday, August 9; and Friday, August 10 at 8:00pm and will open on Saturday, August 11 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, September 2 at The Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at Cypress) adjacent to the Burbank Town Center.

Earlier today, producer Jordan Roth and cast members from Clybourne Park were on hand at Serendipity 3 to sample the scrumptious Clybourne Park Neapolitan Sundae which will be available at the popular midtown restaurant throughout the month of July. Packed with a combustible mix of ingredients, the delicious sundae boasts three provocatively large scoops of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream brilliantly drenched in white chocolate sauce and milk chocolate fudge.
