The work of legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe has inspired the creation of Triptych (Eyes of One on Another), a theatrical oratorio that integrates and questions his often provocative and always compelling images. Triptych spans Mapplethorpe's entire body of work from the unique generational perspective of a diverse corps of visionary artists, working together for the first time.

On Saturday, April 13, the American Museum of Natural History will mark Earth Day with an all-day EarthFest that will immerse visitors in art, science, and culture to celebrate the beautiful planet we call home. The event is free with Museum admission and for Members.

ArtsEmerson in association with the Celebrity Series of Boston are thrilled to presentTriptych (Eyes of One on Another), a new performance piece combining music, poetry and photography that seeks to capture the essence of photographer and visual artist Robert Mapplethorpe's influential body of work. Together, composer Bryce Dessner (guitarist for the universally celebrated band, The National), librettist Korde Arrington Tuttle, director Kaneza Schaal, designer Carlos Soto and music director Brad Wells in collaboration with Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth and featuring poetry by Tuttle, Essex Hemphill and Patti Smith explore the ways Mapplethorpe's works question how we look at, touch, feel, hurt and love one another.

Alex Harris, the Texas-hailing Atlanta-based rising alternative R&B singer-songwriter, releases the visual for his track '5 Miles,' out today via RED MUSIC. The University Musical Society of the University of Michigan presents the world premiere of a new theater piece on the work of controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, Friday-Saturday, March 15-16 at the Power Center for the Performing Arts in Ann Arbor, MI. Composed by Bryce Dessner, with a libretto by Korde Arrington Tuttle that includes poetry by Essex Hemphill and Patti Smith, Mapplethorpe's longtime creative muse, Triptych (Eyes of One on Another) premieres 30 years after Mapplethorpe's untimely death from AIDS at the age of 42.
