The Bistro Award-winning series Sondheim Unplugged will return to 54 Below next weekend, tonight, July 28, with a show at 7:00 p.m.

While Woodstock 1969 will probably forever be known as the ultimate rock n roll festival of all time, NYC cabaret hot spot 54 Below is lining up an impossibly impressive assortment of stars for a one night only Woodstock tribute in August, led by two-time Tony Award-winner Norbert Leo Butz and Broadway/Hollywood notable Raul Esparza.

This week at Joe's Pub at the Public, July 22-28, the lineup will feature: Sasha Siem, Mike Brun and Rachel Brotman, CMA Songwriter Series, Toninho Horta, Rael, Simon Townshend, Ian Thomas, David Raleigh, Timur and the Dime Museum, JD Walter and Vagabond Opera. Details below!

SONDThe latest edition will feature special guests Chip Zien (Into the Woods' original Baker), Sarah Rice (Sweeney Todd's original Johanna), and Terri White (Stella Deems, 2011 Broadway revival of Follies).

The Major League Baseball All-Star break (the game is on Tuesday night) has always been considered the midpoint of the season and as a lifelong fan I've always enjoyed reading those analyses from writers that assess the best performances of the first half. Since July is also the middle of the calendar year, I thought it might be fun to present a cabaret equivalent of a baseball midseason report. So . . . (drum roll) . . . presenting the Best (and My Favorite) 20 New York Cabaret Shows and Performances of (the first half) of 2013.

Composer/Lyricist Scott Evan Davis will present a staged revue of his music in August at Catalina Jazz Club in downtown Hollywood, CA. There will be one show: August 21st, 2013 at 8;30pm.

The event should have been titled '520 Mondays.' On Monday, July 1, Birdland celebrated the tenth anniversary of 'Jim Caruso's Cast Party,' the unique and very extreme weekly open mic. Gianni Valenti, the owner of the historic music room, honored host Caruso with a Seth Walters portrait on the wall, usually reserved for jazz icons. (Caruso quipped, 'Somewhere, Charlie Parker is very uncomfortable.')

Only two nights removed from the last of my three solo debut shows at the Metropolitan Room celebrating the Don McLean Songbook, I was already experiencing the post-performance depression I'd heard tell about from cabaret veterans. I needed someone to lift me up where I belonged, so my instincts took me to Birdland for another trip through memory lane with Nostalgic Natalie Douglas. The last time I had heard the dynamic Ms. Douglas was 14 months before when she powered her way through her historically and politically passionate Freedom Songs. This time, Natalie's nostalgic trip was a much more personal adventure she called Scrapbook 2.0, which traversed everything from the musical influences of her late parents to the tunes she loved while growing up in Southern California. By the time Douglas was finished flipping the pages of her musical scrapbook--and delivering some adorably homey stories along with them--my gloom had been transformed into gladness.

Birdland Jazz Club has announced their moving line-up of exceptional talent for today, June 24 - June 30, 2013.

After a critically acclaimed one-year run at Feinstein's at Loew's Regency, ending only because the Regency closed for renovations, Scott Siegel's BROADWAY BALLYHOO re-launches at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, downstairs at the West Bank Cafe on Wednesday, July 24th at 10:30 PM (doors open at 10 PM).

Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change, Play On!, Jelly's Last Jam, 'All My Children') has joined the lineup for tonight's May 27 edition of The Pop Show, part of the Broadway at Birdland series at Birdland Jazz Club. The 7pm concert will feature songs from the Elton John catalog.

'Exposed: Scott Evan Davis in Concert' will be presented tonight, May 19th at the Time Out Lounge at New World Stages. Joining singer-songwriter Davis for the 9PM concert will be the cast of 'Picture Perfect' including: Kim Grogg, Erik Sisco, Vicky Modica, Jamie Hartmann and Joshua Dixon.

Town Hall was the setting in 1968 of the legendary dual concert of America's leading cabaret performers, the great international club and recording artist Mabel Mercer and the reigning prince of cabaret Bobby Short. In a tribute to these great artists, The Mabel Mercer Foundation presented a lineup of today's leading practitioners of the intimate and enduring art of cabaret. Artists in Partnership (AIP), a non-profit cultural arts organization, will host its 11th Annual Cabaret Festival May 17-19 at the Long Beach Public Library, 111 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY. All performances are FREE to the public. The festival will be a celebration of the cabaret genre honoring the Great American Songbook with performances by renowned local and New York City-based artists.

"MOLLY POPE, OKAY?" presents the critically-acclaimed neo-retro cabarettist in an intimate evening with you and the music. She plays it fast and loose with a new set list of eclectic songs and madcap antics. Juxtaposing the heyday of mid-century New York City nightlife with a downtown modern sensibility, she tackles material spanning the 20th century with her signature old-school style.
