MOLLY POPE, OKAY? Plays the Duplex, 5/22

"Molly Pope, OKAY?" presents the critically-acclaimed neo-retro cabarettist in an intimate evening with you and the music. She plays it fast and loose with a new set list of eclectic songs and madcap antics. Juxtaposing the heyday of mid-century New York City nightlife with a downtown modern sensibility, she tackles material spanning the 20th century with her signature old-school style. She is joined on piano by the brilliant Brian J. Nash. Okay?

Molly Pope is a downtown favorite whose concerts have played Joe's Pub, Feinstein's at Loews Regency, Ars Nova, The Laurie Beechman Theater and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in Australia. She was named a Village Voice "Best of NYC 2011" pick for "Best Singer To Turn Life Into A Cabaret". Molly was a regular cast member in the hit downtown variety show "Our Hit Parade" at Joe's Pub and is a frequent guest at the award-winning The Meeting* with Justin Sayre. On stage she has appeared as Mama in Dan Fishback'sThe Material World (Dixon Place), Adah Isaacs Menken in The Fickle Mistress (Dixon Place), Ruth Sherwood in Wonderful Town (Gallery Players) and Kat in Mr. Irresistible (La MaMa).

Brian J. Nash has been music directing and orchestrating for the theater since the age of 16. He is the Music Director and Orchestrator of the off-Broadway hit, SILENCE! The Musical, and produced Bare at New World Stages. Recent projects include The Last 5 Years (Asolo Rep), A Night In Seville (Epic Theater Ensemble), Crossing Brooklyn (Transport Group), Writing Arthur and Something's Wrong With Amandine at TheatreWorks New Works Festival in Palo Alto, CA, Writing Arthur at NAMT, The $trip, Phenomenon at HERE,The Unauthorized Musicology of Ben Folds I and II, Undercover Showtunes, and But I'm A Cheerleader for the New York Musical Theatre Festival, and A Broadway Diva Christmas, starring Ellen Greene and Kathy Brier. Other NYC and regional credits include Songs for a New World, The Sexless Years, Red, Room to Grow, Lend Me a Tenor, Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Rocky Horror Show. Brian has produced albums for singer/songwriters Justin Tranter, Shanna Sharp, and Stacy Allyn Baker, recently performed at Town Hall, the Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Birdland with Natalie Douglas, and produced and music directed Kate Pazakis' debut album, Unzipped: Live at the Zipper for PS Classics. Brian is in extensive demand as a pianist and singer throughout NYC and has played sold out concerts of the music of Tori Amos; he has also been a featured performer on Rosie and Kelli O'Donnell's r family vacations cruises. His first songs were written for two recent editions of The A Train Plays, and were featured on NPR's "All Things Considered."
