BWW Review: THE WIND AND THE BREEZE

When you think of a play that features rap, you may be expecting a clash of over the top personalities, some witty revisionist history, or at the very least some fireworks. Well, THE WIND AND THE BREEZE now playing at The Cygnet Theatre does offer some fireworks, but it mostly eschews the rest of the obvious assumptions and instead settles on a quiet, funny, and contemplative play about the choices we make and the roads it leads us down.
New Village Arts Announces Eighteenth Season

Season 18 at New Village Arts is a celebration of the diversity of our community. With six mainstage productions, NVA has created an eclectic season of adventurous artistic experiences. For the third season in a row, NVA has parity between its male and female playwrights and has continued its commitment to open casting. We believe that representation on stage is incredibly important, and strive to make our casts as diverse as possible. Teatro Pueblo Nuevo will continue for its second year, and the season includes two San Diego Premieres, one West Coast Premiere, and one World Premiere adaptation. There is something for everyone in this season, and we can't wait to share it with you!
Cygnet Closes Season with THE WIND AND THE BREEZE

Cygnet Theatre closes its 15th season with the World Premiere of The Wind and The Breeze by New York based playwright Nathan Alan Davis. This poetic, slice-of-life drama was the winner of the 2013 Lorraine Hansberry Award and part of The Bill and Judy Garrett Finish Line Commission in 2016, where it moved audiences with its humanity and humor. Cygnet's production is directed by Rob Lutfy and runs May 16 through June 10. Opening night for media is May 19.

Moonlight Stage Productions closes its 2017 season with the groundbreaking musical In the Heights, September 13 - 30. With music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes, this Tony Award-winning musical broke new ground as it introduced a new generation of Broadway storytellers. Manuel would later go on to bring his megahit show Hamilton to the stage. In the Heights is full of exhilarating dance with a backdrop of salsa, Latin pop sounds, and frequently rapped lyrics described by the New York Times as "an ear-tickling novelty on Broadway."
