The Kent State University Orchestra and Combined Choirs join together to conclude the School of Music's 2018-19 concert season on Sun., May 5 at 3 p.m. in Cartwright Hall's University Auditorium. This annual audience favorite brings together nearly 200 musicians from the Kent State University Orchestra, Kent Chorus, Kent Chorale, and Men's and Women's Choruses. Conductors include Dr. Jungho Kim, Director of Orchestra, and Dr. Scott MacPherson, Director of Choral Studies.
Stephen Wise To Host Mieczyslaw Weinberg Centennial Concert

Stephen Wise Free Synagogue will host a concert May 19 celebrating the centennial of prolific Polish-Jewish composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg. The program will feature Weinberg's "24 Preludes for Solo Cello" performed by Yosif Feigelson, Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" with pianist Ilya Yakushev, and several of Weinberg's Yiddish songs performed by Stephen Wise Cantor Daniel Singer.

The Santa Barbara Symphony continues its 65th Anniversary season by kicking off the New Year with two performances of Pictures at an Exhibition, on January 19 at 8:00 pm and January 20 at 3:00 pm at The Granada Theatre. Maestro Nir Kabaretti will lead the Santa Barbara Symphony in a one-of-a-kind multimedia presentation of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, featuring an animated film created by students and graduates at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Additionally, the symphony will perform Brahams' Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, featuring concertmaster Jessica Guideri and principal cellist, Trevor Handy.

San Diego Symphony Announces Annual January Festival

The San Diego Symphony's annual January Festival returns in its fourth year entitled, Hearing the Future. Throughout the festival, which runs January 9 - 27, 2019, the organization explores and celebrates the power of music and art to give voice to the evolution and revolutions in the world at large. The festival, curated by composer-conductor Matthew Aucoin (b.1990), will shine a spotlight on the music being made today - from composers and performers who are still in high school, to a 90-year-old jazz master. The festival will also explore the way music from the past - from Haydn, Beethoven and Berlioz to the creators of African-American spirituals - engaged with the most urgent issues of their time.

Rafael Payare's highly anticipated inaugural concerts as San Diego Symphony's Music Director Designate take place as part of the annual January Festival. It will mark his only Jacobs Masterworks appearance this season and will feature acclaimed cellist Alisa Weilerstein and the orchestra's first-ever performance of Benjamin Britten's Symphony for Cello and Orchestra. He will also perform in a special Discovery Night concert on January 10, with all funds from this concert going to support the San Diego Symphony's Learning and Community Engagement programs.
Santa Barbara Symphony Announces New Season

Subscription sales are underway for the Santa Barbara Symphony's 65th anniversary season, which will open October 20 with compelling works by Dohnanyi, Gershwin, and Berlioz. The orchestra will present a total of nine deeply satisfying programs at the Granada Theatre over the course of the season, including three non-subscription concerts. Series packages start at $163.

Winners have been announced for the unique Musical Inspirations Art Contest, hosted by The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts and Louisville Orchestra. The selected winners' pieces will make their public debut at the Gheens Foundation Great Expectations concert on February 7. The prizewinning art work will be projected onto large screens while the Louisville Orchestra and the Louisville Youth Orchestra combine forces to perform the music that inspired their art: the complete Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky.
Michael Tilson Thomas to Conduct The MET Orchestra at Carnegie Hall 6/5

Carnegie Hall today announced that Michael Tilson Thomas replaces conductor James Levine on The MET Orchestra program for June 5, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The program will now include Carl Ruggles's Evocations in place of the previously announced world premiere of Eros and Nemesis by Charles Wuorinen. The remainder of the program remains the same with soprano Pretty Yende singing Mozart's Exsultate, jubilate and Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in G Major. This concert marks Maestro Tilson Thomas's first performance leading The MET Orchestra.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents its Toyota Symphonies for Youth (TSFY) concerts for the 2017/18 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Designed for children ages 5 to 11, the Saturday 11 AM concerts are designed to introduce kids to the joys of classical music through the experience of live orchestra performance combined with the fantasy of theater. Each concert is preceded by a choice of workshops at 10 AM that incorporate art, dance, storytelling, and an instrument petting zoo. Select TSFY concerts will be conducted by participants from the 2017/18 Dudamel Fellowship Program, created by Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, together with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, in 2009 to provide a unique opportunity for promising young conductors from around the world to develop their craft and enrich their musical experience through personal mentorship and participation in the LA Phil's orchestral, education and community programs.
The Kentucky Center And Louisville Orchestra To Hold Unique Musical Inspirations Art Contest

Students across the Commonwealth will have the exclusive opportunity to have their artwork projected 15 feet tall at The Kentucky Center for the Arts, during a performance by The Louisville Orchestra and the Louisville Youth Orchestra playing the music that inspired their art work in February, as part of an innovative new art contest. The Kentucky Center and Louisville Orchestra have announced that they will be holding a unique music-based art contest for Kentucky students in grades 8-12. The contest calls for 2-D artwork inspired by one of five provided musical compositions, all from Pictures at an Exhibition, by famed Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. The deadline to submit artwork through the online platform, Acceptd, is January 10.
