There is no place like New York! With a city this rich in culture, scandal and diversity, the possibilities for theatrical reenactment are endless. The Players Theatre Short Play and Musical Festival encourage playwrights to mine this precious resource by offering an annual NYC - themed festival each June. Celebrating its 5th year, "Only in New York" opens Thursday, June 4 and runs for three weeks. Each week five original short plays, by five separate playwrights will be presented and a "Best of the Week" production will be selected by audience vote.

Colin O'Leary and director of Teens on Broadway Jonathan Mann in welcoming and inspiring the 70 students, who represented 5 public high schools from 4 NYC boroughs. Ensemble ACJW, an inspirational collective of young professional musicians, performs a program of classical and contemporary works at the Greenwich Village club SubCulture on Friday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. The program entitled "Balancing Act" includes music by Jennifer Higdon, Dvo?ak, Barber, Piazzolla, Webern, Poulenc, and David Lang - works that typify writing for winds, strings, and a delicate balance of those forces combined, and exemplify the collaborative elements inherent in Ensemble ACJW. The concert is their last performance of the season.

Bergen County Players is thrilled to present the final production of its 2014-2015 season, 'The Mouse That Roared', adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel and directed by Lynne Lupfer. 'The Mouse That Roared', the second and final Second Stage production of the season, will be performed only on Saturday, June 6th at 8 pm and Sunday, June 7th at 2 pm at the Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. A limited number of tickets are available to be purchased online at www.bcplayers.org, by calling 201-261-4200 or by visiting the box office at 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell during regular box office hours.

Acclaimed Off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons held its annual Spring Gala yesterday, May 4 at the event space 583 Park Avenue. Titled CELEBRATING PETER JAY SHARP'S NEW YORK, the evening honored the late philanthropist, hotelier and real estate developer Peter Jay Sharp and The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation (Foundation Directors: the late Mr. Sharp, Edmund Duffy, Dan Lufkin, the late Jack Nash and Norman Peck). Among several theaters in New York City, Playwrights Horizons' more intimate 128-seat theater was named after the late philanthropist. It premiered when the company's new building opened its doors in January 2003. BroadwayWorld takes you insode the special night below!
