The Stratford Festival will present Linda Gaboriau's remarkable new translation of Michel Marc Bouchard's Christina, The Girl King. Written by one of Quebec's most celebrated playwrights, and directed by Vanessa Porteous, Artistic Director of Alberta Theatre Projects, the play makes its English language premiere at Stratford's Studio Theatre. Previews begin tonight, July 29, and the production officially opens on Thursday, August 14.

Forty-four works in glass by renowned Italian architect Carlo Scarpa—created during his 15-year collaboration with Venini Glassworks in Venice between 1932 and 1947—have been donated by Dr. David Landau and his wife Marie-Rose Kahane to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where they will join the collection of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. All of the works were on view recently at the Museum in the exhibitionVenetian Glass by Carlo Scarpa: The Venini Company, 1932–1947.

When Margaret Whiting died on January 10, 2011, the news was like a dagger into the heart of the New York cabaret community. Whiting was a beloved singer for almost seven decades, who seemingly delivered every American popular song ever written, conquered almost every musical art form--from Big Band to Country to Musicals to Cabaret, from radio to the recording studio. On top of all that, Whiting worked with and mentored many New York cabaret musical directors and performers, including the late Mary Cleere Haran and K.T. Sullivan, who along with Whiting's daughter Deborah, hosted a 90th birthday Whiting tribute show on Monday night at Carnegie Hall's elegant Weill Recital Hall. Presented by The Mabel Mercer Foundation, for which Sullivan is Artistic Director, It Might As Well Be Spring! A Celebration in Song of the Life of Margaret Whiting was an almost three-hour concert featuring two All-Star teams worth of cabaret stars spanning a few generations.

This will be the 29th anniversary of the original production, and 23 years since the Los Angeles production originally opened. Marmo and Theatre 68 are elated to be granted the rights for this show for the first time since its original premiere. Landing Van Zandt as the director was the icing on the cake.

King, Punchdrunk has crafted a dining experience in the spirit of Sleep No More to compliment Chef King's menu, which is a modern take on classic American and British fare. Those dining at The Heath can therefore expect hearty cuisine with an ambiance-both on the plate and in the room-as only Punchdrunk could imagine.
