SWEAT, a new play by Lynn Nottage directed by Kate Whoriskey, just opened last night and is running through Sunday, December 4 at The Public Theater. 

Casting has been set for Center Theatre Group's production of "Amelie, A New Musical" at the Ahmanson Theatre which begins previews December 4, 2016, opens December 16 and continues through January 15, 2017.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, The Public's Free Shakespeare in the Park all-female production of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW began performances on May 24 and is part of the global 400th anniversary celebration of William Shakespeare's life and death. The Public Theater opened the MOBILE UNIT'S ROMEO & JULIET on Friday, April 15. Directed by Lear deBessonet, the sit-down run of ROMEO & JULIET follows a three-week tour of the five boroughs, bringing Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts. Continuing Artistic Director Oskar Eustis' 10th Anniversary season, the Shakespeare classic began previews on Monday, April 11 and will run in The Public's Shiva Theater through Sunday, May 1. Continuing its commitment to bringing free Shakespeare to the community and strengthening audience engagement with the arts, The Public Theater will mount its MOBILE UNIT again this March with a free three-week tour to the five boroughs of Shakespeare's ROMEO & JULIET, directed by Lear deBessonet. As part of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis' 10th Anniversary season, the free Mobile Unit tour (March 18 - April 9) will bring Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts by visiting correctional facilities, homeless shelters, social service organizations, and other community venues. Following the free tour, ROMEO & JULIET will have a sit-down run at The Public Theater from Monday, April 11 through Sunday, May 1, with an official press opening on Friday, April 15.

WASHER/DRYER, a new comedy by Nandita Shenoy about a recently eloped young couple- Michael and Sonya- who discover they haven't been entirely truthful with each other as they settle into Sonya's Manhattan studio apartment with its own stackable washer/dryer as a key perk. Directed by Benjamin Kamine, WASHER/DRYER comes to NY following its world-premiere at East West Players in Los Angeles last winter, and a subsequent production in Chicago this fall.

Amelie, A New Musical won the hearts of Bay Area audiences this fall, and according to the Record, it might soon win the hearts of New York audiences. Director Pam MacKinnon revealed in a recent interview that she hopes the show will arrive on Broadway in the next year and a half.

The world premiere musical First Daughter Suite, written by Michael John LaChiusa, and debuting at The Public Theater, directed by Kirsten Sanderson, runs now through Sunday, November 15, the show just opened last night and BroadwayWorld was there. Check out photos from the festivities below!
