Porduction proposals are currently being accepted for Metropolitan Playhouse's 10th Living Literature Festival -- The TranscendentalFest. Scheduled for January 11th through 24th, 2016, The TranscendentalFest is a collection of new plays and celebrating the work and spirit of the American Transcendentalists. Works adapted from, inspired by, or relating to prominent authors' and leaders' work, life, and obsessions are all welcome.

Spreckels Theatre Company has announced its main stage and studio theater productions for its 2015 to 2016 season including an encore presentation of 'Mary Poppins' and award-winning musicals 'The Light in the Piazza' and 'Kismet'

The Ensemble Studio Theatre Marathon of One-Act Plays, the original festival of its kind, returns for its 35th incarnation, tonight, May 13, at 7:00pm at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street. 

Telling the story of the March sisters growing up in Civil War America, Little Women has never really had the recognition it deserves as a musical. It only lasted for four months on Broadway and has had just a few short stints elsewhere. Based on Louisa May Alcott's semi-autobiographical novel, it is a very character driven piece adapted for the stage by Allan Knee with music and lyrics by Jason Howland and Mindi Dickstein respectively. BOA Musical Theatre have yet again recreated a wonderful production.

The Nora Theatre Company will present Saving Kitty by Marisa Smith, featuring film and television star Jennifer Coolidge, and is directed by Artistic Director Lee Mikeska Gardner. Saving Kitty runs from July 9 through August 2, 2015. The press performance is Monday, July 13 at 7:30PM.

Clear Space Theatre Company is in rehearsal for its May production of LITTLE WOMEN: THE MUSICAL, the 2005 Broadway musical rendition of Louisa May Alcott's classic story Little Women. The show opens on May 1 for three weekends at the theatre in Rehoboth Beach. Two real-life "little women" - 14-year-old Jamie Ditzel and 17-year-old Rose Slavin - are enjoying their first experiences in an adult, main stage show.

Little Women, a contemporary musical featuring the timeless story of the four March sisters, will premiere this Friday at Reynolds Hall on the campus of Shepherd University, produced by Shepherd University's student-run musical theater group, Scene Stealers.

Ensemble Studio Theatre/Youngblood world premiere Five Times In One Night by Chiara Atik, directed by R.J. Tolan, has been extended for another week at Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street, with a must close date of Saturday, March 21.

"…the plot revolves around the lives of the four March daughters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy - and follows their triumphs and tragedies as they grow up, fall in love, and face life." Per the playbill comes a simple, but altogether truthful, analysis of the lengthy goings on of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel Little Women. In playwright Thomas Hischak's stage adaptation, Alcott's timeless work remains as close to the original text as one could hope. In this particular version, however, Jo takes on the role of narrator which provides an entirely new dynamic to a work that many know quite well.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company continues its season with the much anticipated regional premiere of Louisa May Alcott's 'Little Women' adapted for the stage by Emma Reeves. This production is directed by Cincinnati Shakespeare's Artistic Associate, Sara Clark and features Cincinnati Shakespeare's Resident Ensemble members Maggie Lou Rader, Annie Fitzpatrick, Kelly Mengelkoch, Caitlin McWethy and Courtney Lucien. Today in 2005, Little Women opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 137 performances. Based on Louisa May Alcott's classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, it focuses on the four March sisters - brassy, tomboy-like, aspiring writer Jo, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy, and kind-hearted Beth - and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio. The Broadway cast included Sutton Foster, Maureen McGovern, Janet Carroll, Jenny Powers, Megan McGinnis, and Amy McAlexander.
