A colorful production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance sails into The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre this January as The Atlanta Opera returns to the mainstage, featuring Atlanta favorite tenor Santiago Ballerini as Frederick and Curt Olds as Major General Stanley.

Lucas Meachem Releases Christmas EP, ALL I WANT

Following years of releasing elaborate music videos of holiday carols on his popular YouTube channel, Grammy Award-winning baritone Lucas Meachem releases All I Want, an EP of five classic Christmas ballads on December 10 with Crossover Records. Carols include All I Want for Christmas, This Christmas, Adeste Fideles 'O Come, All Ye Faithful,' and Carol of the Bells, each arranged for a cappella voices by Meachem and featuring him singing all of the multi-layered parts.

Named for the groundbreaking African American contralto, the Marian Anderson Vocal Award recognizes a young American singer in opera, oratorio, or recital repertoire with outstanding promise for a significant career. Earlier this year, Washington National Opera (WNO) named tenor Frederick Ballentine as the 2021 recipient and will present him in concert on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.

Bryce Davis and Cilliers opened their recital program with Richard Strauss' and John Henry Mackay's uplifting 'Heimliche Aufforderung' ('The Secret Invitation'). This joyous, celebratory composition was the composer's gift to his bride on their wedding day. Bryce-Davis sang it with exquisite vocal colors. Next was Robert Schumann 'Die Lotosblume' ('The Lotus Flower') in which the poet Heinrich Heine described the beauty of the love between the flower and the moon. Bryce-Davis showed the lyric tones of her voice as she told of this delicate love.
