Berkeley Rep Adds DEAR ELIZABETH and FALLACI to Season

Today Tony Taccone, artistic director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, revealed two new plays that he's selected to complete the Tony Award-winning nonprofit's 45th season. In keeping with its reputation for debuting smart and adventurous shows, the Theatre presents the world premiere of Fallaci, written by Lawrence Wright and directed by Gregory Mosher, and the West Coast premiere of Dear Elizabeth, the latest collaboration from Sarah Ruhl and Les Waters.

Working Theatre Announces Reading of US Poet US Poet Laureate Philip Levine, 5/7

Working Theater has announced a reading of the poetry of US Poet Laureate Philip Levine. Readers include Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist Jeffrey Eugenides and performers André De Shields, Gene Gillette and Lisa Ramirez on May 7th at 7pm at the SEIU 32BJ building at 25 West 18th Street, on the 5th floor. Reception with artists to follow.

Native Voices at the Autry, the country's only Equity theatre company dedicated exclusively to presenting and developing the work of Native American playwrights, presents two full-length, one-man plays, WALKING ON TURTLE ISLAND and GHOSTLANDS OF AN URBAN NDN, written by and starring acclaimed actor and storyteller ROBERT OWENS-GREYGRASS (Lakota*) in repertory through March 18, 2012 at the Autry National Center's Wells Fargo Theater in Los Angeles. In the two vastly different works, which showcase his wit and humor, Greygrass portrays an astonishing 38 characters. Kevin Sifuentes (Hopi*) directs both productions. Randy Reinholz (Choctaw*) is Native Voices' Producing Artistic Director, and Jean Bruce Scott is Producing Executive Director.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) has announced that the New York premiere of An Iliad, by Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson, based on Homer's Iliad translated by Robert Fagles, directed by Ms. Peterson, will extend for one week through Sunday, April 1, at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. Mr. O'Hare and Stephen Spinella will continue to alternate performances of the play.

Somewhere around the middle of Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson's solo play adaptation of Homer titled An Iliad, the storyteller, known simply as The Poet, halts his detailing of the Trojan War because something he just mentioned reminds him of an event that occurred in... And then he takes several minutes to sequentially list every major conflict in recorded history from ancient days to the present.
