Shakespeare's Silver Anniversary: The New Orleans Shakespeare Festival Celebrates 25 Years in NOLA

While New Orleans celebrates its 300th birthday, Shakespeare commemorates an anniversary of his own. 25 years ago, several Tulane faculty members joined forces to create New Orleans' own professional classical theatre company and, since that time, the Festival has grown into one of the south's most noteworthy producers of Shakespeare's work. In celebration of its silver anniversary, the Festival will offer an array of unique programming. The 2018 season is:

Le Petit Theatre to Host FOOTLIGHTS FOR HOUSTON Hurricane Harvey Relief Benefit

For the most part, musicals are usually lively, fun, and lighthearted stories set to upbeat music with killer dance numbers. FUN HOME isn't really that type of musical, but it does happen to be among the musicals that I truly think are going to change the world.

Southern Rep Theatre and NOCCA Stage Company present the regional premiere of FUN HOME at NOCCA's Nims Black Box Theatre, September 27 - October 22, 2017. The musical, based on the graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel, follows Alison through past and present as she comes to terms with her father's death, the secrets he lived with, and her own coming-of-age journey. Featuring music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, FUN HOME won five 2015 Tony Awards for its original Broadway production, including Best Musical and Best Score.

Le Petit Theatre wrapped up their 2014-2015 season with crowd pleaser MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG.  Music and lyrics written by none other than the amazing Stephen Sondheim, MERRILY tells the story of a one Franklin Shepard (Richard Arnold) and his rise to fame in Hollywood.  Sounds like a dream, right?  But you see, there's a catch.  Frank's road to becoming a great Hollywood producer comes with loss in other areas of his life.  He abandons his career as a Broadway musical composer along with his family and friends.  Turns out fame and money aren't what bring Frank the happiness that he is looking for.
