Theater People Podcast Bonus Episode Features Mayer, Scanlan

On Monday, September 9, the Theater People podcast welcomes Tony-winning director Michael Mayer and writer/lyricist Dick Scanlan. For the episode, Mayer and Scanlan discuss their new collaboration, WHORL INSIDE A LOOP which Scanlan co-wrote with Sherie Rene Scott and which Mayer and Scanlan co-directed. The play, currently running Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater, is loosely based on Scanlan and Scott's experience working with prison inmates on putting together a show based on monologues written by the inmates about the circumstances that landed them in jail.

Brian Worsdale the Artistic Director and Conductor of the French Woods Symphony Orchestra invited his buddy Steven Reineke, musical director and conductor of The New York Pops to bring some friends to share a day of music at summer camp and visit French Woods Festival. Paper Mill Playhouse will open its 2015-2016 season with the world premiere musical The Bandstand. As previously announced, Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes (Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde), Corey Cott (Newsies, Gigi) and Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone, 42nd Street) will star in The Bandstand.

Elsie Fest, New York City's first outdoor music festival celebrating tunes from the stage and screen, is set to launch on Sunday, September 27 (2-9PM) at JBL Live at Pier 97 (57th St and WestSide Highway in New York City). Performers will include Aaron Tveit, Darren Criss, Lea Salonga, Laura Osnes, Seth Rudetsky, Leslie Odom, Jr., and StarKid.

Samuel French has announced the winners of the 2015 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's leading short play competition. The six winning plays were presented in a Showcase on Sunday, August 9th at the conclusion of the week-long festival at the East 13th Street Theater (Classic Stage Company). These plays will be published, and available for licensing by Samuel French in the 40th Annual edition of its Off Off Broadway Plays collection:
