Canadian Opera Company Closes Season at 91% Attendance

The Canadian Opera Company has closed another successful opera season with 2011/2012 recording an average attendance of 91%. A total of 125,238 patrons attended the 67 performances of the company's seven mainstage productions in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts: Gluck's Iphigenia in Tauris, Verdi's Rigoletto, Puccini's Tosca, Saariaho's Love from Afar, Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, the double bill of Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and Handel's Semele.

Vienna has been home to some of the world's most important composers and has inspired some of the greatest works in Western musical history. The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park concludes its 2011-2012 Season with "Spring in Vienna," featuring music that captures the spirit of the "city of music." The Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra are joined by soprano Julia Foster and tenor Curtis Rayam on a program including the Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss, the first movement of Schubert's Symphony No. 8 ("The Unfinished"), excerpts from Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes, and "Spring" from Haydn's The Seasons.

Tenor Anthony Kearns takes the title role in Opera Naples [FL]'s production of Charles Gounod's, Faust - tonight, Friday, Feb. 24 - at 7:30 p.m. This is Mr. Kearns third appearance with Opera Naples, where he previously performed, with much acclaim, as 'Romeo' in Romeo and Juliet: Then and Now and as 'Edgardo Di Ravenswood' in Lucia di Lammermoor.

Dressed in period regalia and esconsed behind a grand piano, Ludwig van Beethoven will entertain audiences with his swinging new 'lounge act.' The press opening will be Jan. 13 at 8:00 pm.
