This year marks not only Trinity Repertory Company’s 45th annual production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, but also the company’s return to live theatre after nearly two years - and what a return it is! This production feels particularly joyous, and, as directed by resident company member Joe Wilson, Jr., celebrates community, culture, and ritual with the unique flair Trinity Rep is known for.

Trinity Rep continues its 2019-20 Season with the final play from American theatrical legend August Wilson - Radio Golf. Directed by resident acting company member Jude Sandy, the show features resident acting company member Joe Wilson, Jr., as Harmond Wilks, a man determined to revive his childhood neighborhood without considering the emotional cost. Both moving and funny, Radio Golf is the culmination of August Wilson's ten-play American Century Cycle chronicling each decade of African-American life in the twentieth century. The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm), under the leadership of Artistic Director Tony Estrella, today announced the addition of Aaron Posner's new play JQA in the second slot of the 2019-2020 lineup. Estrella will direct the New England premiere of JQA, in which a diverse cast of four actors share the role of one-term American President John Quincy Adams. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' An Octoroon, previously announced as the season's second play, will open The Gamm's 2020-2021 season instead. Joe Wilson, Jr., Coordinator of Activism through Performance and Resident Acting Company Member at Trinity Repertory Company, will direct Jacobs-Jenkins' Obie Award-winning play that explodes ideas about race and American identity. JQA runs from October 24-November 17 at The Gamm Theatre, 1245 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, RI. Season subscriptions for Season 35 are on sale now. Single tickets go on sale in early August. The Homeric epic The Odyssey, is at its core, a story of a man trying to return home after a war. black odyssey is much the same, but instead of Odysseus, hero of the Trojan war, we follow Ulysses Lincoln, a black man who joined the army to earn some money for his young family, but who was pulled into an unexpected war after the attacks of September 11, 2001. This retelling blends the classic story of The Odyssey with lots of music, fantastic costumes, heartbreak and laughter. Unlike the character of Odysseus, who seems most himself when he's fighting, killing or talking his way out of a situation; Ulysses Lincoln is a man who wants to go home, but who is also feels unworthy because of things he did during the war. He's a much more human character, played with perfect humility and inner turmoil by Joe Wilson Jr. Knowledge of the original story of The Odyssey may make certain in-jokes in this play slightly funnier, but there's absolutely no need to slog through that tome before experiencing this excellent production.

Trinity Rep will continue its 2018-19 Season with the epic tale of black odyssey by Marcus Gardley. Inspired by Homer's Odyssey, this story examines Ulysses Lincoln's journey home from war when the world - and the gods - are against him. This adventure brings the combination of history and heart together in a poignant and imaginative story that will captivate audiences. This production will feature resident acting company members, Jude Sandy and Joe Wilson, Jr. as co-directors, with Joe Wilson, Jr. as Ulysses Lincoln. black odyssey runs January 3 - February 3 with press opening on Monday, January 7 at 7:30 pm. Trinity Repertory Company held its 2018 Project Discovery Gala, which supports education programs at Trinity Rep, on November 14. Through ticket sales, sponsorships, and a live auction, the event raised more than $85,000. The event was co-chaired by resident actors Rebecca Gibel and Charlie Thurston with Barbara and Larry Schoenfeld, and Ken Sigel and Sarah Kelly. Resident actor Joe Wilson, Jr. served as emcee and auctioneer.

Trinity Repertory Company's 2018-19 Season opener, Pride and Prejudice, recently ended a successful run, playing to sold out audiences and over 90% capacity. The comedy, which ran October 4 through November 4 was the highest-selling comedy produced by the organization since The Odd Couple in the 2009-10 Season. The production was also notable for playing to higher paid capacity than any show since The Completely Fictional - Utterly True - Final Strange Tale of Edgar Allan Poe in the 2010-11 Season. More than half of the Pride and Prejudice public performances sold out. Adapted from the Jane Austen novel by Kate Hamill, this production was directed by Birgitta Victorson. The cast included resident acting company members Angela Brazil, Janice Duclos, Rebecca Gibel, Rachael Warren, and Joe Wilson, Jr. They were accompanied on stage by guest actors Richard Donelly, Shelley Fort, and Katie Croyle.

Trinity Rep, in partnership with Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA), announces a free, public reading of Karen Zacar as' play Just Like Us on October 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Trinity Rep at 201 Washington St. in Providence. Just Like Us, a powerful play based on the real story of DREAMers , will be directed by Joe Wilson, Jr. and performed by the Trinity Rep resident acting company, local actors, students, and activists. Trinity Rep announces a special addition to this year's 40th anniversary production of A Christmas Carol. As part of its ongoing efforts to forge deeper connections with The Rhode Island community, Trinity Rep has invited 18 different community groups to perform in every public performance of this year's production.Celebrating the community-driven spirit of Southern New England's favorite holiday tradition, co-directors Angela Brazil and Stephen Thorne are excited to invite these groups on stage to share in the spotlight. Each community group will perform in three consecutive performances throughout the course of the run of the show.  A Christmas Carol will run November 9 - December 31, 2017, with acting company member Joe Wilson, Jr. in the role of miserly businessman Ebenezer Scrooge. THE MOUNTAINTOP by Katori Hall, reimagines Martin Luther King's last night in a Memphis hotel room with an unexpected amount of humor and some magical realism.  It is daunting to take on the task of humanizing such a larger-than-life figure, but Joe Wilson Jr.'s portrayal is compelling, endearing and perfectly captures both the challenge and the pain that comes with being a public figure called to tackle a seemingly impossible task. This two-person production also stars Mia Ellis as Camae, the hotel maid who delivers coffee to King's room and who quickly becomes a friend and confidant. This is an intimate production that manages to avoid getting too preachy, delivering a night of excellent theatre.
