Legendary guitarist/songwriter Jorma Kaukonen is touring for his upcoming release, Ain't In No Hurry, out on February 17, 2015. He will perform on Friday, March 13 at 8pm at Infinity Hall Hartford, 32 Front St, Hartford, CT.

Cleveland Play House has in its recent history included small cast musicals in its offerings. Those shows included TAPPIN' THROUGH LIFE (Maurice Hines), BREATH AND IMAGINATION (Roland Hayes), WOODY SEZ; LIFE AND MUSIC OF WOODY GUTHRIE (Woody Guthrie), THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF BESSIE SMITH (Bessie Smith), and ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN (Janis Joplin). Each told a story about the person through their own words, their music, or from the mouths of those who knew them. Often they have been tied to Black History Month.

On Monday, February 2nd at 9:30pm, performers will gather to perform A-Sides: The Songs of Anna K. Jacobs at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.

Performances for MOTOWN THE MUSICAL begin Tuesday, February 24 for a limited two week run through Sunday, March 8, 2015. MOTOWN THE MUSICAL is part of the 2014-2015 Broadway in Fort Lauderdale Series presented by Broadway Across America and Florida Theatrical Association in partnership with The Broward Center for the Performing Arts. New York, NY - Bang on a Can: Beauty Is Power, a concert featuring 'cello goddess' (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser, will take place at the Jewish Museum tonight, January 29 at 7:30pm. Tied to the Museum's exhibition, Helena Rubinstein: Beauty Is Power, the first exhibition about the legendary cosmetics entrepreneur and trendsetting art collector Helena Rubinstein, the performance will highlight powerful women composers. This program is the third concert of the Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can's partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015, inspired by the Jewish Museum's diverse slate of exhibitions.

From March 24 through August, , the Skirball Cultural Center presents Rock & Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip, featuring works by Los Angeles-based photographer Robert Landau. On view will be more than twenty photographs from the only extensive collection of images that capture the hand-painted, temporary billboards that lined L.A.'s fabled Sunset Strip for almost two decades. Taken when Landau was just a teen, the photographs document the emergence of an expressive art form uniquely suited to the city of L.A. and bring to life a colorful and fleeting period in American popular culture. They trace the cultural phenomenon of rock billboard advertising from its inception in 1967 - with the promotion of the Doors' debut album - to the advent of MTV in the 1980s. The photographs also offer a glimpse into L.A.'s past, portraying both the city's infrastructure and inhabitants at the time.

As the days dwindled down to a precious few in 2014, a few cabaret goers and performers in what is affectionately but also self-mockingly called the “cabaret community” would sidle up and ask if I was planning my annual end-of-the year “Best Of” column, similar to the “Top 20 Bests and Favorites” piece over the first half of the year I posted back in early July. I would respond in the negative with very reasonable and believable excuses, but the truth is I didn't want to reveal my “Bests” of the year until the voting for the 2014 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Awards had ended. There's enough baggage and backstage whispering that comes with administering the BWW Awards, so I wasn't about to publish any opinions that might influence the vote while it was in process. I may be crazy but I'm not masochistic. But now all bets are off. You want lists? I'll give you lists.

Paper Mill Playhouse presents its winter comedy, Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Oscar nominee Queen Latifah ('Chicago') stars as legendary blues singer Bessie Smith in the HBO Films drama BESSIE, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dee Rees ('Pariah') from a screenplay by Rees and Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois. With a story by Rees and Horton Foote, the film focuses on Smith's transformation from a struggling young singer into 'The Empress of the Blues,' one of the most successful recording artists of the 1920s and an enduring icon today.
