The UC San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance presents The Implicit Self, a continuous dance practice in which director Veronica Santiago Moniello destabilizes space by redirecting the iconography that possesses her way of moving. Based on Moniello's last research, 'The Origin of an Implicit Body Language,' which was developed during the summer of 2016 in Venezuela and supported by CILAS, Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies and Fundacion Androginos from Merida, Venezuela, the performance is an ongoing process of experimentation. It runs April 20-22, 7:30 p.m., at the Molli and Arthur Wagner Dance Building, Dance Studio 3 in the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theatre District on UC San Diego's campus. (more...)

Write Out Loud - an organization founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading short stories aloud for a live audience  - announces the 2017 POETRY OUT LOUD Regional Finals. The National Poetry Foundation, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and managed in California by the California Arts Council presents POETRY OUT LOUD, a national poetry recitation competition for high school students. The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team of the first offering in the 2016 Summer Shakespeare Festival: William Shakespeare's thrilling classic Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick, Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company and a leading Shakespearean expert. The so-called "Scottish Play" will run June 19 - July 24, 2016, in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Previews run June 19 - 24. Opening night is Saturday, June 25 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets start at $29, on sale now to the general public. (more...)

The Old Globe today shared its 2016 Summer Season, which will feature new and familiar works directed by four major American stalwarts. The season features the welcome return of Steve Martin (Bright Star) with the World Premiere of his new play Meteor Shower, an adult comedy, directed by Gordon Edelstein, in a co-production with Long Wharf Theatre, where he serves as Artistic Director. Paul Gordon's musical Sense and Sensibility will have its West Coast premiere, presented in association with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where it had its world premiere in February 2015, directed by CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines. The Summer Shakespeare Festival will include Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick, Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company, and Love's Labor's Lost, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall.
