LA Phil Announces 2014-15 Season at Walt Disney Concert Hall

Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and President and CEO Deborah Borda today announced the 2014/15 season of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This new season, the orchestra's 96th, is devoted to moving music forward by presenting an ever-evolving vision through a series of programs that demonstrate the artistry of the Los Angeles Philharmonic as a leading orchestra of the 21st century, under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel.

New World School of the Arts Presents FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, Featuring Viviana Lasaracina, Tonight

New World School of the Arts celebrates Valentine's Day with a special presentation by piano virtuoso, Viviana Lasaracina, who joins the NWSA music division in the conservatory's annual concert at Knight Concert Hall. Coinciding this year with the Sochi Winter Olympic Games and Valentine's Day, From Russia with Love highlights masterpieces from three Russian musical giants: Stravinsky, Rachmaninov, and Shostakovich. The concert will take place tonight, February 12 at 7:30 pm.

Magic and wonder await as Deputy Headmaster Vladimir Kulenovic conducts the Utah Symphony through the music and fantasy of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on February 18 and 19 at Abravanel Hall. Songs from the 'Harry Potter' movie soundtracks composed by John Williams are scattered throughout the concert including the musical flights of 'Nimbus 2000' and 'Hedwig's Theme' and the mystical spells of 'The Sorcerer's Stone' and 'Witches, Wands and Wizards'.

Julije Knifer's First U.S. Solo Exhibition Opens Tonight at Mitchell-Innes & Nash

Mitchell-Innes & Nash presents an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by former Croation artist Julije Knifer (1924 - 2004). The exhibition will be the first ever solo show of Knifer's work in the United States, and will include work from the early 1960's through the 2000's.

Utah Opera Artistic Director Christopher McBeth today announced Utah Opera's 2014-15 season. The company's 37th season will feature four productions between October 2014 and May 2015, including the company premieres of Georges Bizet's The Pearl Fishers and Igor Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress. The season will also feature the debut of Utah Symphony's Music Director Thierry Fischer in his first Utah Opera conducting role, leading The Rake's Progress.

Karyn Levitt to Perform ERIC BENTLEY'S BRECHT-EISLER SONG BOOK, 2/3

Singer Karyn Levitt, with pianist Eric Ostling, will perform Eric Bentley's Brecht-Eisler Song Book, a unique evening that features the songs of Austrian composer Hanns Eisler (1898-1962), set to poetry by Bertolt Brecht and other noted writers, in English versions by Eric Bentley, Monday February 3 at 7:30 PM at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia/Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway (entrance on 95th Street). Eric Bentley, now 97 years old, is the first translator into English of Brecht's plays and poems, introducing Brecht's work to American stages in the 1940's and 50's. Bentley has now unlocked Hanns Eisler's starkly beautiful songs, many set to poems by Brecht, to be performed by soprano Karyn Levitt, with whom he has worked closely since 2011.

The Tokyo Philharmonic has the longest history and tradition of any orchestra in Japan, having been originally established in Nagoya in 1911. As plans were being made for its centenary celebrations in 2011, a devastating earthquake and tsunami struck east Japan, challenging the nation with an unprecedented crisis. The orchestra's centenary plans were scuttled, as an entire culture adjusted to a solemn new reality.
