Continuing a tradition that dates back to 1920, when Burns Mantle founded the annual Best Plays Theater Yearbook, the Best Plays of 2009-2010 were announced today by editor Jeffrey Eric Jenkins.

Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) has announced that Amari Cheatom, Brian D. Coats, Chuck Cooper, Maria Couch, Harriett D. Foy, Dion Graham, April Matthis, Jacob Ming-Trent, Seth Numrich, Stephen Plunkett, Michael Siberry and Shelley Thomas will be featured in its upcoming LCT3 world premiere production of ON THE LEVEE, a play with music, conceived and directed by Lear deBessonet, with play by Marcus Gardley, and music and lyrics by Todd Almond.

The New York Times reports today that Hartford Stage Artistic Director Michale Wilson will be stepping down from his poast after 12 years in the position. Wilson is departing in the hopes, he tells the New York Times, of being 'more fully in the rehearsal hall.'

The production will be directed by Michael Greif. ANGELS IN AMERICA is the first production of Signature's 20th Anniversary season, celebrating the works of Tony Kushner.

BroadwayWorld previously reported that Horton Foote's THE ORPHANS' HOME CYCLE would aim for a Fall 2010 Broadway opening, rather than rush the show into Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre following its acclaimed Signature Theatre run. The Hartford Courant is now reporting that Foote's play is no longer being considered for a Fall 2010 opening: 'all the talk is about the spring.'

Yale Rep's original musical, 'POP!' and Hartford Stage's production of Horton Foote's marathon 'The Orphans' Home Cycle' are big winners of the 20th annual Connecticut Critics Circle. Theatrical advertising giant Frank 'Fraver' Verlizzo announced that he is launching FraverDesign. A new concept in theatrical advertising, FraverDesign will offer theatre producers the opportunity to obtain vital advertising 'creative' and create the 'key art' for their shows, either in conjunction with an advertising agency, or in the very early stages of production before an agency is brought on board.

The LCT3 production of GRACELAND, a new play by Ellen Fairey, plays at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street® project, (229 W. 42 Street).
