On Monday January 23rd Theatre 20 announced its inaugural season in a very special event held at Toronto's The National Club. On hand for the announcement were most of Theatre 20's founding members, as well as members of the arts community, city councilors, special musical guests and invited members of the press. Pete Townshend's score won the Tony Award in 1993 when The Who's concept album from the late 1960's was transferred to the Broadway stage. Townshend said he used Tommy's afflictions to represent the 'basic blindness to reality' shared by most of the general population. The role of Tommy will be portrayed on The Media Theatre stage by Peter Kriss who has been seen in regional productions of 'Footloose' and 'Fame'. Ah, the age-old story of forbidden love. What youngster could possibly resist the lure of a romance with the child of a feuding family? At least, that's what the fathers are counting on, in The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater's production of The Fantasticks - starting January 7th. Yes, it's a musical case of reverse psychology - wherein two fathers pretend to be enemies in an attempt to push their children together.
