Andrew White Named Lookingglass Theatre Artistic Director

Lookingglass Theatre announces today that Andrew White, a founding Ensemble Member, has been elected by the Lookingglass Ensemble to the position of Artistic Director Elect. He will transition into the position under the guidance of outgoing Artistic Director David Catlin, who will step down in June 2010. Catlin recently accepted a Visiting Professorship at Northwestern University; he will remain an active Ensemble Member and will direct his adaptation of Icarus at Lookingglass in December 2009.

Broadway In Chicago is excited to announce Tony Award winners Roger Bart and Shuler Hensley will reprise the roles of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and The Monster in the first national tour of The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein. The Chicago engagement will play the Cadillac Palace Theatre for a limited six week engagement November 3 - December 13, 2009.

For its sixth season, the NorthEast Shakespeare Ensemble will present Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors in repertory with Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, at the Lebanon Opera House from June 18 through July 4. These two classic plays will showcase the versatile talents of NESE's acting Company: Comedy is a fast-paced popular delight, full of puns, wordplay and slapstick humor, and one of the funniest plays the Bard ever wrote; in contrast, Godot is a tragicomedy, where 'nothing' happens, but audiences still stay glued to their seats.

DesiLit presents the third Kriti Festival, a celebration of South Asian and diaspora literature and arts, to be held June 11-14, 2009, at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and Roosevelt University. The four-day Kriti Festival is slated to include participant panels, author readings, writing workshops, publishing and marketing seminars, live performances, and question and answer sessions with literary agents and editors. Desi is a person of South Asian ancestry (living in South Asia or the South Asian diaspora), and kriti is pronounced 'kree-thee.'

GEORGE ORWELL'S 1984 will now close on Sunday, April 26. Adapted from Orwell's seminal novel by Alan Lyddiard, GEORGE ORWELL'S 1984 is directed by Joe Tantalo.
