59E59 Theater Extends Orwell's 1984 Until 4/26

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) is thrilled to announce that due to ticket demand, the Godlight Theatre Company production of George Orwell'S 1984 has been extended for one week. George Orwell'S 1984 will now close on Sunday, April 26. Adapted from Orwell's seminal novel by Alan Lyddiard, George Orwell'S 1984 is directed by Joe Tantalo.

Previews began on Friday, March 13, and the production opened on Wednesday, March 25. The performance schedule remains Tuesday at 7:30 PM, Wednesday - Friday at 8:30 PM; Saturday at 2:30 PM and 8:30 PM and Sunday at 3:30 PM. Single tickets are $25 ($17.50 for 59E59 Members).

George Orwell'S 1984 is a chronicle of one man's struggle against the ubiquitous, menacing state power Big Brother that tries to dictate nearly every aspect of human life. A classic in dystopian fiction and a trenchant political satire, George Orwell'S 1984 resonates with themes as salient today as they were when this novel was first written.

The NY Times singled out Dustin Olsen's portrayal of O'Brien, saying he "makes an impression with an icy, scary rendition of O'Brien" and Time Out NY praised the production's "visceral shock and awe" saying, "Andrew Recinos's soundscape chills (his use of a dentist drill borders on genius) and Maruti Evans's quicksilver lighting appropriately jars." Backstage enthused "There's so much that's smart about this production!" The Epoch Times praised the production as "Absolutely brilliant!" Stage and Cinema News said that GEORGE ORWELL'S 1984 "Might just be the best show you'll see this season!"

1984 features Katherine Boynton (Fahrenheit 451, Church at the Public), Enid Cortes (Blindness), Gregory Konow (Fahrenheit 451, Slaughterhouse Five), Deanna McGovern (Slaughterhouse Five), Dustin Olson (Slaughterhouse Five), Nick Paglino (Blindness, Slaughterhouse Five), Aaron Paternoster (Slaughterhouse Five), Michael Shimkin (Blindness and Slaughterhouse Five), Scarlett Thiele (Neighborhood Playhouse), Michael Tranzilli (Fahrenheit 451, Slaughterhouse Five) and Sammy Tunis (Futurity at the Zipper).

Two-time Drama Desk Award nominee Maruti Evans returns to Godlight to design the sets, lights and costumes for the production. Sound design and original music is by Andrew Recinos. Choreography is by Hachi Yu (Fosse, National Tour). The Production Stage Manager is Amy Acorn.
