Nyack Center will host its annual holiday festival and community gathering on Sunday, December 13, at 7PM. This year, as in years past there will be both Readings and Music in the Holiday Spirit, at this fun filled holiday extravaganza produced and hosted by Kevin Pariseau & Elliott Forrest. Event sponsored by Docuware. The evening will feature scores of local talent to include; Music from Steven Bernstein, Nyack High School Advanced Chorus, Cause Kidz and readings from Dennis Boutsikaris, Kevin Pariseau, Sakina Jaffrey and others with a special return appearance by Darrell Larson. The American Symphony Orchestra begins its 2015 Classics Declassified series with Tchaikovsky's impassioned and Romantic Symphony No. 4 at Symphony Space on Sunday, February 8, 2015. Discover why the composer said of his work, "Perhaps I'm mistaken, but it seems to me that this symphony is better than anything I've done so far" as Leon Botstein and the Orchestra shed new light on a time-honored masterpiece. Hosted by WQXR's Peabody Award-winning broadcaster and producer Elliott Forrest, the three-part format of Classics Declassified begins with an animated talk providing a guided tour of the work, followed with its full performance. The New York Comedy Festival (NYCF), in association with Comedy Central, announced today the addition of more than 60 shows including Comics to Watch, the New York's Funniest Stand-Up competition finals, and events featuring Jim Gaffigan, Bob Odendkirk, Pete Holmes and Sommore. In addition NYCF in partnership with The Paley Center for Media announced three new dynamic panel discussions with the creative teams behind the hit shows "Late Show with David Letterman," "Inside Amy Schumer" and "Broad City;" The 11th annual festival runs from November 5 - 9 at more than 20 venues throughout New York City. Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the New York Premiere of The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Requiem with baritone Jacques Imbrailo, the Westminster Symphonic Choir directed by Joe Miller, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus directed by Dianne Berkun-Menaker. The concert, Monday, May 5, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., will open the Spring For Music festival at Carnegie Hall, for which North American orchestras are invited to present one-night-only performances of unusual programming. The concert will be broadcast live on WQXR 105.9 FM and wqxr.org at 7:30 p.m., hosted by WQXR's Elliott Forrest and David Garland. WQXR will make it available for on-demand listening for one year following the stream on wqxr.org. (more...)
