As part of the eleventh edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 and The Chocolate Factory present I Understand Everything Better, by recent Bessie Award Winner David Neumann. I Understand Everything Better is a deeply personal reflection on the consciousness of dying and interrupted narratives within the context of a cataclysmic storm. Combining personal narratives, traditional Japanese Noh theater and Neumann's virtuosic movement and humor, collaborators Tei Blow and Sibyl Kempson unite with Neumann to reveal the shimmer of attention to realms unseen, the concurrence of unrelated events and the body as evidence of a will having to let go. On October 23 & 24, Persona, a new opera from composer Keeril Makan and adaptor / librettist / director Jay Scheib, will make its world premiere at National Sawdust. Commissioned by Beth Morrison Projects and National Sawdust, and adapted by Scheib from Ingmar Bergman's film of the same name, Persona is a provocative, highly cerebral, and artistically complex depiction of human frailty, cruelty and identity. These world premiere performances—which represent the first opera staged at National Sawdust—feature music direction by Evan Ziporyn and music by the ensemble Either/Or. (more...)

This past Wednesday kicked off the 12th edition of the annual Fall for Dance Festival, which will feature 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world at the New York City Center. Fall for Dance is a two-week festival that has become a cultural staple here in New York-a commitment to making dance accessible to everyone by providing an opportunity for audiences to enjoy a wide array of artists from around the globe at a affordable price. This year's festival will consist of five unique programs, in addition to several pre-show events which include dance lessons and panel discussions with choreographers, artists, and dance educators. Highland Park, New Jersey --- Randy James' all male dance company, 10 Hairy Legs, returns to New York Live Arts for its third consecutive New York Season for four performances June 11 -14.   Continuing to showcase the company's extensive repertory that celebrates and explores the artistry of the male dancer, this season features 2 programs, 6 New York City Premieres, 9 works by 10 Choreographers and Live Musical Accompaniment at all performances. Robert Johnson, Dance Critic noted “…since its formation in 2012, its rapid growth has been astonishing…the diversity of this programming is a treat for audiences…this company has also become a welcome source of choreographic commissions…there aren't many repertory companies yet, but when a group like 10 Hairy Legs performs…the scenery changes and styles switch abruptly.
