Broadway's Carols for a Cure, Volume 11, the annual holiday CD benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), goes on sale Saturday. The CDs are sold at participating Broadway and off-Broadway shows in New York during a six-week 'Gypsy-of-the-Year' fundraising period which runs this year from October 24th through December 8th.

The first round of auditions for NYMF's Next Broadway sensation took place last Sunday night at New World Stages, with the live audience and the panel of judges, Bailey Hanks, Orfeh (Legally Blonde) and Marc Kudisch (9 to 5) selecting five finalists with a sixth finalist chosen by online voters who were able to see all of the performance at Theatermania.com thanks to DFD TV.

Preliminary auditions were held over the weekend and out of hundreds of auditions, NYMF has selected the 10 finalists that will compete to be the 'Next Broadway Sensation.' Belting this year at New World Stages will be: Nathan Brisby, Catherine Brookman, Starr J. On Monday, Broadway's best singers gathered on the Town Hall stage to perform some of the funniest, most dramatic, most rousing and most poignant showstoppers from musicals. Ably directed by Scott Thompdon and musically guided by musical director Fred Barton (who must surely have an aging portrait locked in at attic somewhere, and who performed mere days after sustaining injuries in a car accident), the evening represented songs ranging from jazz standards by Eubie Blake to this year's Tony winner for best score, Next to Normal.
