CSO Violinist Alicia Hui Set for Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra Concert, 10/6

The 2013-14 Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO), comprised of 97 students from 20 Ohio school districts, will showcase CSO violinist Alicia Hui in its concert at the Capitol Theatre on Sunday, October 6. Currently principal second violin for the Columbus Symphony, Hui will perform Scottish Fantasy by Max Bruch. CSO Associate Conductor Peter Stafford Wilson will conduct the program which also includes Beethoven's Overture to Creatures of Prometheus and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

Pacifico Dance Company to Perform at Harris Center, 10/4

Founded in 1992, this company of 32 accomplished dancers and musicians will present the essence of traditional folkloric styles with modern dance idioms. The company has toured internationally-the first folkloric company to tour Asia-and enjoyed a residency in The Kennedy Center. The work to be performed on Stage One, Mexico en Movimiento begins in the enigmatic realm of Aztec mythology and journeys onward, offering an exciting glimpse of Mexico's evolving present, and the afterlife. "Pacifico brings us Mexican dances with classical rigor" (La Opinion).

Oakland Symphony Chorus Announces 55th Season

Performances of choral masterworks by Brahms, Berlioz and Handel; Winter and Spring holiday concerts and a selection of community events will highlight the Oakland Symphony Chorus' 2013—2014, 55th annual concert season, Music Director Dr. Lynne Morrow has announced. Four concerts will feature Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes on November 16, 2013, culminating an 11-week community workshop exploring their music and history; the annual holiday “Let Us Break Bread Together” December 15 with Oakland East Bay Symphony and guests; an Easter-time sing-along of Handel's Messiah April 13, 2014 and the monumental Berlioz Requiem with Oakland East Bay Symphony May 16, 2014 celebrating the Chorus' 55th anniversary, Oakland East Bay Symphony's 25th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of Oakland Youth Orchestra. In addition, the Chorus will present a Discovery Day event for the community to explore, learn about and hear portions of the Berlioz Requiem on April 26, 2014. Bringing artists from all over the world, and from most every genre, the Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College - formerly known as Three Stages at Folsom Lake College - will offer literally hundreds of performances in 2013-14. Beginning in late July, 2013 and extending into spring 2014, the new season includes world-class performers like Kenny Loggins, Seinfeld's Jason Alexander, and Savion Glover; Broadway productions such as Peter and the Starcatcher, The Addams Family and Bring It On: The Musical (all of which are appearing in the capital region for the first time ever); and an unprecedented season of dance in Folsom which kicks off with Alonzo King LINES Ballet and also features Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Bellydance Superstars, Ballroom with a Twist, and return visits of the popular Moscow Festival Ballet's Swan Lake and Diavolo Dance Theatre; and many more, all on the stages at the Harris Center.
