Production commenced today in Los Angeles for CBS's new summer series EXTANT, starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry and produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios. Acclaimed director Allen Coulter ('Boardwalk Empire,' 'The Sopranos') is directing the first episode.

The serialized drama starring Halle Berry is a mystery thriller about a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. Gummer will take on the role of 'Julie, one of John's (Goran Visnjic) principal partners in building the robot prototypes like Ethan (Looper's Pierce Gagnon), John and Molly's son,' according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Today, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced the nominees for the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards (CSA) and Take 5 Productions, an industry leader in high-quality international television production, received a record 18 nominations for The Borgias, Vikings, and World Without End. ABC has cancelled its freshman lotto drama Lucky 7 after just two episodes, it was announced today. The news is somewhat expected, after the second episode on Tuesday earned a meager .7 in the key adult 18-49 demo. Deadline has confirmed that the network will slot Scandal reruns in LUCKY's Tuesday timeslot - with no plans to air the already produced episodes.

TNT has ordered a fourth season of Falling Skies, the Epic drama produced by DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg and starring Noah Wyle. Currently airing Sundays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), Falling Skies is averaging 5.8 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery and ranks as basic cable's #1 scripted series with adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 for the summer-to-date. TNT plans to launch the 10-episode fourth season in summer 2014.
