FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will open at The Bushnell's Mortensen Hall on Tuesday, October 15. With electrifying dance at its core, FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream. FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL is part of the 2013-2014 Bushnell Broadway Series co-sponsored by Travelers and Webster Bank.

On September 12, some of Broadway's brightest talents sang completely new arrangements of the hits of Amy Winehouse in the most recent concert of the BROADWAY SINGS concert series. More than 20 Broadway performers were accompanied by a full band playing brand new, original orchestrations of the English singer's greatest songs. The concert is the fifth of the series; previously honored were Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and Stevie Wonder. Big Thunder Productions will present Mercury Rising, a Benefit Concert by MSS Alums in the Big Apple, a cabaret event to be performed on Sunday, September 15th at 4pm at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. The event will feature songs from new, bound-for-Broadway musicals written by up-and-coming composers and lyricists from all over the globe, including Mercury Summer Stock's own Dan Marshall, Carla Rose Fisher, and Aliyana Stewart. This benefit concert will feature Broadway's Corey Mach and Drew Aber, and over a dozen of Mercury's NYC-based professional alumni, along with special guest Marissa Rosen. Bring It On's Adrienne Warren and Ryann Redmond, Once's Laura Dreyfuss and recording artist Grace Weber will round out the lineup for Twenty-Somethings at The Highline Ballroom on Monday, August 12th at 8PM. The concert will feature up-and-coming songwriters Blake Pfeil, Zoe Sarnak and Drew Overcash performing new music that range from jazz to pop/rock to contemporary musical theatre.
