Signature Theatre presents the world premiere of Easy Women Smoking Loose Cigarettes by DC playwright Dani Stoller.

Ford's Theatre Society announced full casting and design team for Guys and Dolls, directed by Peter Flynn. The production features Maria Egler as Miss Adelaide, Joe Mallon as Nathan Detroit, Bueka Uwemedimo as Sky Masterson and Karen Vincent as Sarah Brown. The musical features showstoppers 'Luck be a Lady,' 'Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat,' 'Take Back Your Mink' and more, and plays March 13 to May 20, 2020, at historic Ford's Theatre. The production is recommended for ages 10 and older.

This February Otherworld Theatre presents Anniversary, written by Jeanne Tiehen and directed by Maria Burnham. The play runs February 7 - February 16, 2020 at Otherworld Theatre. Tickets for all shows are Pay-What-You-Can and are available at www.OtherworldTheatre.org.

Solea Pfeiffer and Emmy Raver-Lampman star as the Clarke sisters, Mary and Martha, in Signature Theatre's world premiere production of Gun & Powder with book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri and music by Ross Baum. Gun & Powder will run from January 28 – February 23, 2020 in Signature Theatre's intimate MAX Theatre and will be directed by Robert O'Hara (Broadway's Slave Play).

Today's subject Diana Huey is currently living her Theatre Life at Studio Theatre where she is giving a shattering (literally) performance as Built Suttikul in White Pearl. The production runs through December 15th.

I am often asked what my all time favorite Broadway musical is. I always reply A Chorus Line. I consider it to be a perfect musical in every way. The show's original director/choreographer Michael Bennett captured the heart and soul of the dancer so beautifully in what I consider to be his masterwork. Marvin Hamlisch's music and Edward Kleban's lyrics were and still are one of the most inventive theatre scores ever written. James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante's book (based off of taped interviews of Broadway dancers conducted by Bennett) frame the songs to sheer perfection. Paul's monologue in the show is actually based on Dante's true story.

Ford's Theatre announces that acclaimed Washington actor Craig Wallace will return to Ford's to reprise the role of Ebenezer Scrooge for the company's holiday production of A Christmas Carol.

Signature Theatre and Stephen Sondheim have been a winning combination in the DC theatre scene since 1991when the company presented Sweeney Todd at Gunston. In 1992 it presented the Stephen Sondheim/John Weidman collaboration known as Assassins. The show was produced again by Signature in 2006 in their garage space.

Today's subject KenYatta Rogers is currently living his theatre life onstage at Signature Theatre playing Folk Man 3 in Spunk. The production directed by the esteemed Timothy Douglas runs through June 23rd in Signature's ARK space. The show is KenYatta's Signature Theatre debut.

I've never been disappointed by a show at Signature Theatre. Even their ongoing Grand Hotel, which is working with some less-than-stellar source material, is elevated by the wonderful craftsmanship and talented artists this theater welcomes. The same can unfortunately not be said of the disappointing Spunk, which opened in Signature's more intimate ARK theater on Friday. Zora Neale Hurston's masterful prose falls flat in a production that feels like it opened too soon, resulting in an evening lacking in the gumption this show tries to champion.
